Publisher's Summary

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before - and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

"I was so obsessed with this book that I had to take it with me out to dinner and hide it under the edge of the table so I wouldn't have to stop reading... The Hunger Games is amazing." (Stephanie Meyer)

"Brilliantly plotted and perfectly paced." John Green, (New York Times Book Review)

    "LOVED These books"
What made the experience of listening to The Hunger Games the most enjoyable?

Went thru this book in two days. Gripping! Book appeals to audiences over 13, but anyone of any age after that. I'm 29, and loved this entire trilogy! Great stories. I wish the author would write more!! I'm hooked!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Hunger Games?

Katnisss' inner monologue, makes you feel like you are telling the story. Every detail needed is in there, every thought, it's wonderful.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I loved when they plotted to destroy the food.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and nearly tried. 2 days, because I have to work too. :)

    Any additional comments?

If you are thinking I am too old for these books, think again, they are for everyone over 13.

    "Better than I expected!"

After watching the movie, I thought I'd listen to this book! As usual, it's soooo much better than the movie! Miss Collins really did an amazing job on this book and I look forward to listening to the next book in the series!

    "Easily consumed audiobook."
What made the experience of listening to The Hunger Games the most enjoyable?

It was an easy listen, it captivated me from the beginning.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The main character is likeable and getting the story from her point of view works.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not really, but it was plenty captivating, making me listen every spare time I had in the last few days.

    Any additional comments?

I kept thinking this was a bit of an easy listen, and that the plot could have some more complex plot twists.

I was hesitant about the narrator at first, but she performs beautifully and I quickly forgot about the narration which is what you want to.

    "Captivating!"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Hunger Games to be better than the print version?

    Haven't read the print version

Who was your favorite character and why?

Katniss. I loved the way she explained exactly how she felt. Totally made you feel like you were right there with her.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When she kissed Peetah because she wanted tro and not for the audience. She was experiencing her first acknowledged crush. Totally reminded me of middle school feelings and awkward adolescence.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Definitely

    Any additional comments?

I can hardly wait to listen to the next one. Downloaded it just now.

    "Great book"

First of all, the narrator IS NOT bad. Her male impressions are fair, but her female impressions are actually quite good.

With that out of the way, this was a great book to listen to. This is only my 6th book from Audible, but it's one that I've went through the fastest! I could't stop listening. Good pacing and overall story.

Now... please excuse me. I have 1 credit awaiting, and I have to download the Catching Fire.

    "Lord of the Flies Redux"

I loved how the book started. I couldn't put it down. But as it progressed it seemed too simple a story, more for teens than for grown ups. If it weren't for the fight to the death of the kids in the games, I would definitely say this was a kids book. The ending was weak, I doubt I'll read the sequels. It was like Lord of the Flies, with the gov. playing the part of man's natural instincts.

    "Gore criticism is unwarranted!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I thought this was a great read and look forward to reading the 2nd and 3rd books. Yes, there were some violent scenes but not any more violent than most nights on TV with the crime shows. Because this was children against children, I think some overacted to it.

The story was interesting and engaging. The philosophies exposed should make some great discussions for young people in a great many areas. I think this story hits a lot of hot buttons and is in general very positive in the world of young people today.

As an adult, I enjoyed it thoroughly.
