Whets your appetite just enough....

I wasn't sure how the book was going to turn after the previous books parts. Some interesting elements were introduced in this books, a couple new characters as well and some surprising twists. The narration is what I have come to expect from The Secret Circle and delivers as I would expect it to with nothing extraordinary to speak of.

To be honest I thought the book series had ended after the third book. Everything appeared to be tied up to an extent and left me thinking there was nothing too major to be resolved. So I was quite surprised when I was browsing the site and found that there was another book out.

This fourth book to me reminds me of the first book where L.J Smith was putting the elements in place for the book to 'pick up' later on. It reminds also of one of the more annoying aspects of the books for me surrounding the teenage-fated-to-be-forever-love thing. That's not to say the book wasn't good and it did have a lot of exciting parts and twists about it, I actually enjoyed it and am also genuinely interested as to how it will proceed. I am a bit wanting as it regards to character development of anyone in the circle other than Cassie though... The circle is twelve witches and at most the only ones who had made any meaningful development/change to me are Cassie and Faye.

Overall to me a good starting point for what is to come.... Whatever it is....

THIS IS NOT WRITTEN BY LJ SMITH

This book wasn???t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

SOMEONE WHO HASNT READ BOOKS ACTUALLY WRITTEN BY LJ SMITH AND WOULD THEREFOR HAVE NO EXPECTATIONS.

Has The Divide turned you off from other books in this genre?

NO IT JUST MAKES ME DOUBLE CHECK WEATHER OR NOT AN AUTHOR HAS ACTUALLY WRITTEN THE BOOKS AS DISPLAYED.

What does Devon Sorvari bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

SHE GIVES THE CHARACTERS LIFE AND SETS A GREAT TONE FOR THE SERIES.

Any additional comments?

SHAME ON YOU AUDIBLE FOR PROMOTING THIS BOOK AS WRITTEN BY LJ SMITH SO THAT IT WOULD ACTUALLY SELL. I DIDNT EVEN REALIZE IT UNTIL PART WAY THROUGH THE BOOK WHEN I STARTED ASKING MYSELF WFT SHE WAS DOING TO THE STORYLINE. THEN AFTER SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS WAS WRITTEN BY SOME GHOSTWRITER SINCE APPARENTLY SHE WAS FIRED FROM WRITING HER OWN SERIES. I DESERVE A REFUND ON MY CREDIT FOR THIS ONE.

Does not follow the characters from the original

This book was a complete disappointment. I read the original series in high school and absolutely loved it, now that audible exists I thought I would go back and read the series again. I was super excited to find out that the series continued further than when I was in school. This book completely disregards the characters of the original series. I would say that this book matches up well with the CW TV series, so if you appreciated that, you may enjoy this story. As someone who loved the original books this was absolutely heartbreaking. Utter destruction of carefully crafted characters and relationships. I really wonder what LJ Smith thinks of her books' utter decimation in the hands of Aubrey Clark. I would not recommend this book it's basically like a fan fiction that you stop reading halfway through because the writer doesn't understand the characters.

A Decent Continuation of the Series

It's important to realize that this book is picked up by a new author many years after the third book was published. Aubrey Clark brings some much needed depth to characters that had been previously flat... though I'm not sure I appreciate this new depth. For readers transferring directly from the ending of book three, they may think the witches are acting completely out of character. Diana is suddenly suspicious of others. Diana, who willingly sacrificed her relationship with Adam so he and Cassie could be together, who forgave Cassie even after she was corrupted by Faye. I admit, she was a little TOO good, but she reads like a completely different character now. Faye still doesn't have any redeeming qualities and the constant romantic interactions between Cassie and Adam are gag-worthy. And Cassie... is exhausting to listen to. She is angry and depressing and unable to listen to reason, but now there is no Hematite to blame her wild mood swings on. That being said, I liked the plot twist with Scarlett, and I like that they are running from witch hunters, though I think making the principal one of them might have been a mistake, as we just saw a villainous principal in Black John. I'm interested to see where this plot takes us.

It's not bad — but it's not The Secret Circle

What disappointed you about The Divide?

The characters were all wrong. Some were stripped down to caricatures of the more well-rounded characters of the first three books, while others were changed completely. Character development took a huge backslide to the first book for no reason. Diana is cruel to strangers (with the reasoning that "Diana got like that sometimes around outsiders") when that's a trait she never had. The entire school (of outsiders) loved Diana in the original trilogy, because she was kind to everyone.

Susan and Debora are sidekick mean girls who only step in to make snide comments. Faye is evil for the sake of being evil. Nick is whiney and Adam is annoying.

What does Devon Sorvari bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Devon Sorvari is still great. My one complaint is her voice for Scarlet. Very breathy and a little ridiculous.

Wish that l.j smith wrote it so the characters were as they used to be.

I am mad at Cassi made me mad

first of all I felt like there was no common sense in Cassie whatsoever secondly she’s kind of sounding bratty and thirdly talk about Power Trip. But I also understand the reasons why all of this was happening however like you said that Diana was your sister and like took you in as one of her own and then you just go and like not take her word When she is just trying to tell you to be careful saw this antagonist coming from a mile away

😱 a very good series, well worth a read.

😱omg with every book I am more and more absorbed into it's words. I suggest this book to people even out of the fantasy genre and everyone has fallen in love with it. the secret circle is definitely worth a read! The character development weaves a beautiful and intimate Bond with the reader bringing you into the story, emotion, mind of Cassie Blake & her Circle Of Witch's as they learn develop there powers to defend themselves as well keep the old powers alive.
