Brilliant

Absolutely fabulous book - not one to put a big smile on your face, but does ask some big questions. I found it quite difficult to read at times due to the trials and tribulations that some of the characters go through.

The narrator is absolutely fabulous, I really can't say enough good things about him, every voice is differentiated, and at times it's difficult to believe they're all coming from one person. I'd personally have him do all books from now on!

Hugely recommended.

Brilliant!

If you've read the knife of never letting go, get this book! It's an amazing sequel. If you haven't read the knife of never letting go, get over there and get it, then come back for this. I'm hooked! Off to read monsters of men.

Keeps the story going

With the characters from the first book and a few new ones the story develops into a battle between fanatics. The theme being you can't trust warmongers - on any side.

Excellent second part!

Great follow up, and as said before it has been read superbly. So good that you'll have to buy the next one!

strong, nuanced, frustrating and hard

this is a hard book, especially at the start, it just feels like everything is checkmate, or maybe stalemate, and nothing is possible but stick a it. Sadly it suffers from Tod being the one. why? because he is special. but what's special about him. special stuff. love him... Despite this, and despite the fact that Viola is much more deserving of being the one, I took a lot from this book, there's tension and excitement and thinking and I'm looking forward to part three (but maybe after a little break)

This author is brilliant.

The second book in the trilogy is as fast paced and exciting as the first. There are plenty of twists and turns and sometimes your not sure who should be trusted. I can't wait to start the third and final book. Keep them coming Patrick. Such unusual, thought provoking stories.

Great second installment

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This is a great second instalment in the trilogy, I was gripped from start to finish and I always looked forward to my commute home so I could listen to more of the story!

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I loved the character development of Davey Prentice Jr in this book, he quickly became one of the best developed characters in the series.

Seamless sequel

LOVE the book title! The Ask and the Answer is a psychological thriller. The story is original, the relationships between the characters are satisfyingly complex, and the language is wonderful. If I was being picky I'd say that once or twice I felt a scene was a little drawn out, but that would be really picky. Occasionally I had trouble with the switch between Todd and Viola, not realising that the speaker had changed immediately. No one else seems to have had this issue though and I completely agree with other reviewers that Humphrey Bower is one of the best audio-book narrators there is. If you liked The Knife of Never Letting Go you'll love The Ask and the Answer.
