Publisher's summary

Teardrop launches a new series from Lauren Kate, author of the #1 New York Times best-selling Fallen series. Haunting, mysterious, romantic and steeped in mythology, Teardrop is the epic saga of Eureka Boudreaux, a 17-year old Louisiana girl whose tears have the power to raise the lost continent of Atlantis . . . a world where everything you love can be washed away. With the international phenomenon Fallen, Lauren Kate has captured the hearts and imaginations of readers all over the world, with rights sold in 33 countries and counting.

Never, ever cry. . . .

Eureka Boudreaux’s mother drilled that rule into her daughter years ago. But now her mother is gone, and everywhere Eureka goes he is there: Ander, the tall, pale blond boy who seems to know things he shouldn’t, who tells Eureka she is in grave danger, who comes closer to making her cry than anyone has before.

But Ander doesn’t know Eureka’s darkest secret: ever since her mother drowned in a freak accident, Eureka wishes she were dead, too. She has little left that she cares about, just her oldest friend, Brooks, and a strange inheritance - a locket, a letter, a mysterious stone, and an ancient book no one understands. The book contains a haunting tale about a girl who got her heart broken and cried an entire continent into the sea - and something about the story is uncannily familiar.

Eureka is about to discover that the ancient tale is more than a story, that Ander might be telling the truth . . . and that her life has far darker undercurrents than she ever imagined.

Unexpected

This builds and builds until it grabs you by the throat and keeps your ears riveted to this amazing tale.
Ms. Kane is a talented yarn spinner and Erin Spencer has a pleasant reading voice. This is a great listen! I honestly didn’t see this twists..

Not what I expected but so good!

I wasn’t sure what I expect but I loved the “Fallen” series and this didn’t disappoint! I’m several years older reading these books and though having a boy save me seemed ideal in my 20s I realize that I need to save myself more so than not. So, I was glad to see the main character did just that!

Promises to be a good story

What did you love best about Teardrop?

I like the way Lauren Kate writes. But in this book, what I liked most was the mystery surrounding the little book inherited by the protagonist.

Who was your favorite character and why?

No one in particular. The story, at least in this first book, has few characters. Still can not describe the character of each.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Any additional comments?

The story seems interesting. I can not wait to meet the continuing story. Especially after, what was for me, an unexpected end. A great book. This is a book I'll recommend and buy a portuguese version to read again.

No where near Fallen

What did you like best about Teardrop? What did you like least?

I think with the premise of Atlantis you could do so much more with this series. The lost city of Atlantis has great mythology stories to it that could be used in the plot but wasn’t. The plot was too overshadowed by teen angst and drama. In future books I hope that the mythology of Atlantis is put more into the series.

Would you recommend Teardrop to your friends? Why or why not?

Based on this 1st book in the series, No I would not.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

She wasn't bad at all, it was the storyline that wasn't great.

Could you see Teardrop being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No, not based on this first book.

Any additional comments?

I’m still not sure about this one. I give it 3 stars. I thought it was supposed to be this great epic love story between Eureka and Ander but the love factor was just sort of blah. I totally get that Ander was already in love with Eureka and why. But I think Eureka’s end of that love story could’ve been told better in that it should’ve actually grown better. Their characters didn’t really spend enough time together for there to be a huge declaration of love. I think the premise of the story was good but it could’ve been told better. I’m hoping that the next book and remainder of the series (however long it will be) will get better.
I live in the New Orleans area not far from New Iberia so I really enjoyed the setting of this book.

A Good Background Story

What made the experience of listening to Teardrop the most enjoyable?

The promise of Lost City of Atlantis.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Teardrop?

The death of the fortune teller.

What does Erin Spencer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She had an appealing voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Rhoda tried to save her children.

Any additional comments?

I just finished Teardrop by Lauren Kate and I really enjoyed the story.

I really liked getting the background for Eureka, Brooks, Ander and Cat. I enjoyed the interwoven legend of the Lost City of Atlantis. Which by the way is one of my favorite "places" to explore in my mind.

The story was really a background to these characters and a promise of what is to come. I am eager to read Waterfall the next book in this series.

I do recommend this book. It was a good read/listen.

Terrible Narrator

I got through the first book, but couldn't make it an hour into the 2nd before I had to return it. I could not stand the reader. She reads like a child trying to sound out words super slow and choppy. She can't even read a sentence without bputting in pauses where they don't belong and using different pitches for each half of the sentence. Bleh! Out of the 100+ books I have listened to on Audible I have only returned 2 for bad narrating. This is by far the worst of those two. I can't believe she does this for a living! I read to my kids with smoother diction than Erin!! This is one of those that I will just buy and read myself.

Sluggish

What disappointed you about Teardrop?

Considering the Fallen series, I was just expecting more from Teardrop. It seemed like I was just trying to hurry and get through it. The voice was fine and I thought she did a fairly good job, but I thought the story line itself needed more umpf!

What was most disappointing about Lauren Kate’s story?

it was slow and hard to get through; not enough in the body of the story for me.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I thought the performance was fine.

What character would you cut from Teardrop?

Cat
