Publisher's Summary

When Talia Lyons was just a child, her parents were murdered before her eyes. Offered a choice between accepting their fate and exacting revenge, Talia trains to become one of the country's deadliest assassins in order to kill the man responsible for their deaths: Ian Crane. Luckily, Talia was born with a gift - the ability to read and influence the minds of others.

At 16, Talia is poised to graduate from the McDonough School for the Talented, where she learned to control her abilities. Now there is only one obstacle standing between her and the retribution she craves...Talia, herself.

Her greatest asset may also be her undoing; while a formidable weapon in the field, Talia's talents prevent her from both shutting off the mental connection she shares with her questionable boyfriend and blocking out the thoughts of a beguiling fellow recruit. But Talia can't afford to have the feelings and distractions of a normal teenage girl, when her life is far from normal. She must regain the single-minded determination that has brought her this far, or it may cost Talia her life when she finally faces Crane. And even after being molded in to a weapon of war, she'll still have to find the strength it takes to pull the trigger.

If James Bond and Sookie Stackhouse had a love child with a yearning for vengeance, her story would be Talented, an adventure about powerful teenagers who aren't afraid to embrace their fears and fight for what they believe in.

    "Enjoyable story.."

Yes this is a remake of so many other stories but couldn't that be said of many. Overall I enjoyed the story line. I did fine the primary character a bit insipid, whiny and cloying but I was still intrigued by the story. More because I wanted to know about the secondary characters. I listened to an audio version of the book and the narrator really detracted. She herself was way too whiny for my taste. I'll probably do the next in the series just because I want to know what happens after the cliff hanger. If you like xmen with a young adult love triangle then you should like this one too.

"Good story but the narrator was off"

The narrator's voice when the main character is upset approaches high pitched screaming squeals. When there are two female voices to speak, it is even worse.

The story has good plot turns with a cliffhanger that makes you want to listen to the second book. By the end you are not sure who is the villain.

    "Voices"

Why must the main character whine and have such a high pitch voice? It almost makes it difficult to listen to. The mental voice is so much more stronger – I wish that the voices were more similar...

"Best narration I have listened too, great story"
Where does Talented rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I personally cannot stand listening to audio books. This narrator hooked me in from the start. There is something very soothing about her voice. It reminds me of story time back in kindergarten. Her inflections were fantastic. Her reading was never monotone, very very fluid! I would listen to her again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Talented?

I would say for me it was watching Talia learn how to maximize her powers and descover what all she is capable of

Which character – as performed by Angel Clark – was your favorite?

Talia for sure, but I enjoyed Eric as well!

    Any additional comments?

I was at work listening, and I would have to double the speed sometimes, and I have to admit Angel still sounded great in faster speed :) The actual story was a bit of a slow start for me hence the 4 stars, but midway through it moved fast and picked up pace. I look forward to buying the rest of the series.

Would you listen to Talented again? Why?

Actually I might. I usually wouldn't but I liked it a lot. Depends on how long I have to wait for the second book too.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Tal, she feisty.

What about Angel Clark’s performance did you like?

I like her voices. She is quite good at doing different voices for different characters.

    "Awesomesauce!"
If you could sum up Talented in three words, what would they be?

    Girl beats odds

What did you like best about this story?

I liked how the main character fought against everything that was pushing back at her, which was a fun read.

What does Angel Clark bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Putting voices to the characters, and an expression that isn't normally there when you read books yourself is something that listening to Angel excels at. You can tell that she loves what she does by the effort she puts into creating each character that stands out from the rest.
