Publisher's summary

A new epic fantasy by National Book Award finalist and New York Times best-selling author Laini Taylor of the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy.

The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around - and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old, he's been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever.

What happened in Weep 200 years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?

The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries - including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo's dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?

In this sweeping and breathtaking new novel by National Book Award finalist Laini Taylor, author of the New York Times best-selling Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy, the shadow of the past is as real as the ghosts who haunt the citadel of murdered gods. Fall into a mythical world of dread and wonder, moths and nightmares, love and carnage.

Welcome to Weep.

An Excellent, Moving Fable

This fairy tale has a beautiful balance of dark and light, with rich characters and a cliffhanger ending. Looking forward to the sequel.

I'd listen to this again

Well written, I thought and full of interesting ideas. I adored the author's ability to paint pictures with his language and the choice for a narrator is just right for this book as his voice is sometimes so still, it doesn't interrupt the visual images the author is evoking.. If seems somewhat like a dream/fairy tale for adults, ebbing and flowing.

Laini Taylor does it again!

The voice of the reader is everything I would have imagined Lazlos voice to be! I also lose my self in Laini's story's and unlike any other author before her my mind paints and my body feels what she tells it too with her words. Wonder, flavors, emotions and the elements are all experienced. The first part of Lazlo and Saria's story is a whirlwind of discovery and young love. It is magic and mayhem. Worth every minute of your time. I can not recommend it enough!

Completely ORIGINAL

I have never read a novel So ORIGINAL than Strange the Dreamer! Usually, books with so many intricate story plots, kind of spiral out and really don’t come to a full close, BUT THIS, this had me hanging on the edge of my seat! I love how it ended so I could get excited about the 2nd novel that continues the story. Downloading it now!

Dark and Dreamy

First off, Steve West is a brilliant reader, you're going to enjoy listening to him.

This novel started off strangely …hehe, there's a bit of a learning curve, and the plot isn't apparent immediately, but only a few hours in I was hooked. A dark story of young adults with tentative ties to the supernatural, this doesn't read like YA. And with a villain that by the end had me feeling like Doloroes Umbridge was reincarnated, this story is worth the time to learn the world.
