a good start to a wonderful series

revisiting this book was like look at child photographs of a dear friend. I love the Alex Rider series but th1ey do get better as the series goes along. Here I can feel the beginnings of my beloved Alex and I can almost feel Anthony Hororwitz testing his strength as it were, trying to himself understand Alex so in later book he can fluidly and effortlessly write from the mindset if a 14 year old spy. The book itself is not brilliant passed and can at times be lack luster, but this book is the foundation in which Hororwitz's builds the complicated life of Alex and complex villains; each more serial and diabolical than the next. If love young adult fiction like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson but prefer when the stakes are higher like in hunger games or divergent then this is a must read but give it a chance and read the whole series.

Alex Rider is amazing ( or so I'm told)

I bought this for my son, he loves this series. He thinks Alex is amazing and he listened to this book from start to finish in one go and then listened to it again!

Awesome

This audio book made me buy the whole Alex Rider series. It's so exciting and I can't wait to see if Anthony Horowitz has written anymore books/series like this. My parents have even read the series.

Really gripping

This was a great story and I was gripped throughout. It's exciting to imagine Alex beginning his adventures and made me feel like I was a kid again. Brings back the days of the Famous Five!

Great story for everyone

My 4 children, who range in age from 6 to 13, and I, listened to this book over a few long car journeys. We all loved it. It is an excellent well paced, inventive, exciting story. The narrator does a highly competent job and is a pleasure to listen to. We have already downloaded and started listening to the next book in the series.

An additional note to parents of reluctant readers or children who have difficulty reading. Children can do Accelerated Reader tests on audio books, building their word count to a level to match their classmates and, most important, building their confidence as readers.

Young and brave

First of these novellas I’ve read and it was thoroughly enjoyable . More lives than a black cat and the fighting abilities of Matt Damon this young man really makes this story come alive with excitement.

Wonderful

Ny nine and seven yeat old loved it. My seven year old is a very feminine in her outlook. I was delivered that she liked it as much as her older brother. they both love Ryder as much as Laura Marling (Lauren St John). That s high praise they both want book two now.
