Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: If he doesn't play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone's business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he's been emailing with, will be compromised.

With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon's junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he's pushed out - without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he's never met.

.I had a good time reading the book

I had a good time reading the book once I was into the story, but it took me a long time to feel interested enough and care for the characters enough to want to keep reading. I start reading and then put it down for a few weeks for not being too motivated to read it, but when I start the audio version of it, I got back on track. I found it hard to stop at that point.

The characters were really charming, sure Simon was sweet, but Blue was the sweetest and I felt so protective towards him. I would love to see things a little more from his point of view but I was very pleased with the overall story.

The plot was fine. There was a little bit of angst on it but also a lot of hope on it. I had a good time with it, even though I’ll admit it wasn’t all I was expecting. I’m not too fond on YA and that might bias my view on it but there was something in the book that kept me from loving it. I do think the narration was great. The narrator’s voice was as sweet as I would imagine Simon’s and very captivating. Overall it was a fun book to read. Mostly recommend it to readers who like reading YA.

Cute but very predictable

I figured out Blue's identity way before the reveal, along with various herrings and predicted other less important things before they were revealed. Still, it was very light and fun and a great book to listen to between other heavier listens.

SO GOOD!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I loved this book, it wasn't overdramatic and there was no intense love story. This book just felt so relatable. I felt like I had become friends with the characters in this book, i was part of their lives as well it was that good. I felt sad when the book ended because I just wanted to know more, kinda like when your friends graduated from high school emptyness. But none the less, it was great. Funny, real, and personal. Loved it and 10/10 would recommend

Amazing

The story is great. The narration is perfect. This is one of those stories that whispersync really worked for me on. I read at night, listened in the car, and doing yard work. It got to a point I just couldn't put it down.

pure joy

Happy Pride Month kids! I have always loved journal/correspondence type fiction and this is the right balance along with a satisfying story.

Amazing story

Really amazing coming of age story. Truly a great book love story, and a bonus mystery. Only complaint is that at times it was difficult to differentiate actual conversation or internal thoughts.
