Publisher's summary

When tragedy strikes close to home, Mickey Bolitar and his loyal new friends - sharp-witted Ema and the adorkably charming Spoon - find themselves at the center of a murder mystery involving their friend Rachel. Now, not only does Mickey have to continue his quest to uncover the truth about the Abeona Shelter and the Butcher of Lodz, he needs to figure out what happened to Rachel - no matter what it takes.

Mickey has always been ready to sacrifice everything to help the people he loves. But how can he protect them when he’s not even sure who - or what - he’s protecting them from?

Compelling story for the kid in each of us!

Book definitely WI! (worth it)

Did you read my review about Part 1 of this Mickey Bolitar mystery?

As soon as I saw that Part 2 was out and I had a credit, this book was in my library.

Again, I looked for any excuse to be listening–I even wanted to get at that dust way up by the ceiling. “No, I can’t come! I have to clean my house today”–Translate: I have the new Harlan Coben Mickey Bolitar story.

Although Mickey’s motivation strained my belief as the story progressed, I still loved the book, and want more. The reader, Nick Podehl, performed totally believably as a high school student.

I don’t agree with one of the reviewers that said this book is for kids only. These stories are for the kid in each of us. Personally, I never knew a high school where I was 6’4″, a varsity basketball player, and free to do whatever I want with no parental supervision. I never challenged the police or had unconditional support from a family member. But I don’t think anyone would want to read a mystery set in my high school years–I was closer to Christine than Mickey. For 7 hours, I got to be the Big Man on Campus.

So I listened almost without interruption, and again thought the book was too short. I hope there is more Mickey Bolitar coming soon!

Should be included as Part 2 of Shelter

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This is not a stand alone book. It starts like it should be the next chapter in the first book of this Micky Bolitar series. Even then the plot is too infeasible to be engaging. They comprise a very disappointing series.

enjoyed this one

I really enjoyed this book -- I was not sure after I read several reviews and they were sort of negative.
Now Me, I liked it . It is told by a 16 year old boy -- which is part of a lot of the reviews but he is 16 so that is his way of thinking and doing things.

His uncle was in this story more which I really liked.

My opinion worth a listen

I didn't Want the Story to End.

Would you listen to Seconds Away again? Why?

I would listen to it again, I really enjoyed the characters and how the relationships continue to grow.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mickey and his posse. I love how vulnerable ema is. The bad Lady is also quite interesting. I really hope Coben makes a third book, there is still so much to know.

What about Nick Podehl’s performance did you like?

He was great!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed and I cried, its well written!

Alright, easy listen and/or read

Would you try another book from Harlan Coben and/or Nick Podehl?

I would try another book. In fact i have one of his paperbacks my nanny gave me that sounds better than both of the books in this series.

If you’ve listened to books by Harlan Coben before, how does this one compare?

ive only read the first book in this series by him. So i havent not heard anything else or read anything else of his.

Did Nick Podehl do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I think he did. There were a lot of young characters in the book that i think he tackled the attitudes just right on.

Did Seconds Away inspire you to do anything?

Not really lol

Any additional comments?

I LIKED it. I did not love it. Keep my interest though. I listen while i walk and jog. I never once found myself not connected to drifting into my own mind while listening. Which is so easy to do while running or walking. Esp bringing along you child. Just not as much excitement as i thought there would be. But i did like it.

Read Shelter (#1 mickey Bolitar) first!

I listened to Shelter but that was a year ago.I wish I had re-listened before I started this one. For most of this book I had the feeling I had started in the middle. What was with the butter flies?Who was Ashley? Who was the bald man? That said, as usual the plot was great.
