Publisher's summary

The Amazon YA paranormal romance best seller that launched the Runes series introduced listeners to Raine and Torin.

Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father's disappearance, her mother's erratic behavior, and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James - a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and an uncanny way of reading her. Raine is drawn to Torin's dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks, and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can't stop thinking about him. Half the time she's not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth, the more she uncovers something sinister about him. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology, and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only is she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life.

Good Read - Teen Fantasy

This was a good fantasy teen book with an interesting take on magical abilities.

Raine is an average teenage girl facing some hard situations in her life. Those situations are exacerbated by the appearance of a new neighbor who is as attractive as he is mysterious. When he saves her life using magical symbols called runes, she begins to realize that he may be more than just your average cute neighbor. Despite her feelings for another boy, she can't help but be attracted to Torin and the world he exposes her to. However, Torin's world of magic comes with enemies and Raine may not be prepared to turn her already complicated life upside down.

I enjoyed the book and would recommend it for those who enjoy fantasy, teen romance, and other YA book series.

The narration was decent, but it had a few rough spots where I was confused with who was talking. Gave 4 stars for the rough spots, but I would listen to the narrator again.

5 stars overall, though it was more like 4.5. Still plenty good enough to recommend.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.

A good read.

I've wanted to read this for a long time and jumped at the chance of listening to the audio. While I enjoyed it, there was one major thing that annoyed me. I'm going to list my likes and dislikes, so lets get thee bad out of the way first.

What I Disliked:

The dreaded love triangle!! Why oh why do authors feel the need to put in a love triangle. It's something that I loathe and if I know there's a love triangle, I usually steer clear. She "loves" her boyfriend, whom just happens to be her best friend, yet when the new mysterious neighbour comes on the scene, she can't stop thinking about him, even when she is with her boyfriend. It really turned me off the whole book, which is a pity because there was much to like.

Raine: I really, really didn't like how she was with Eriik. I just wanted her to end it and go with Torin if that's what she wanted instead of staying with him.

Likes:

The Norse mythology: Loved this aspect of the book. We don't have nearly enough books dealing with these kinds of myth!

Torin: Super hot and awesome!!! Such a mysterious character and with some amazing abilities.

The feel: And what I mean by this is that while parts felt incredibly familiar to other books, it felt comfortable reading this. It felt like a lot of my favourite books rolled into one.

In all, this was a good read. I enjoyed a lot of it but didn't like the rest. I will definitely pick up the ext one in the hopes Raine cops on a bit!! ;)

Stephanie Terry did a good job with the narration though I did find that she used the same tone for a number of characters. Overall I enjoyed her performance and would lidten to more read by her.

Great book -horrible narrator

The series is great! Would definitely recommend however I could not stand the narrator! If narrating a book please learn how to pronounce places like Oregon (where the characters live) and Lake Oswego correctly! I did love the book but was just disappointed with the performance.

Couldn't get past horrible narration

Might have been a good story, but I'll never know. The narrator was just too irritating to continue. The story moved too fast and the characters were under developed.

Won't be listening to book 2

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Majority of the voices were done well.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

Any additional comments?

I will not be reading book 2. What happens in the cliffhanger has been told a million times and it is not for me.

I was really enjoying listening to this story, but then the last 20 percent, I just wanted it to end. I loved the banter between Raine and Torin, but I did not like how Raine treated Eirik.

The heroine's mother annoyed me. Her protectiveness felt forced. She just seemed like the airhead mom anyway.

And then Raine's BFF, Cora, could not be more annoying. Then I see later Cora will have her own story...PASS. I kind of want my money back for the audible.

Good Start

Other than the narration it was a good listen. The narrators voice was great, but timing and emphasis seemed off. When the characters were speaking it didn't flow like a real person would.

Did like the story. Good start to a series.

The Newcomers!

I'm happy I went back and listened to Runes by Ednah Walters again. It seems as if I either missed something's in the first audio of Runes. It did get me caught up to listen to the other books in the series. I'm listening to Immortals now. I think this version was shorter than The first audio of Runes I listened to also.

The last narrator of Runes did a great job and I was happy with it. Stephanie Terry did a fantastic job to. I didn't think she pulled off the male accents and voices that well but I think if this was her first audio in the series to narrate that she'll get better with the male voices. Overall, she kept me glued to the story and I give it a perfect 5 star rating!

A Great Beginning to a Series!!!!

Where does Runes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Runes is defined at the top of my favorite audiobooks. The narrator does a great job with capturing the different characters personalities. I especially love how she does Torin's brittish accent.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character is Torin because he seems mysterious throughout the whole book. He also seems to always pop up when Raine needs him.

What does Stephanie Terry bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Stephanie does a great job with making sure each character has a distinctly different voice. Sometimes narrators tend to blend voices so they sound similar but Stephanie does not do this. She did a perfect job.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The end of the book was a big shock but I feel Raine is going to fix it anyway she can.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to listen to the next book in this series.

Runes on Audible an Excellent Experience

If you could sum up Runes in three words, what would they be?

Love, Hope, Destiny

What did you like best about this story?

RUNES represents a refreshing twist away from a genre flooded with fallen angels, vampires, werewolves and zombies. This is Norse Mythology mixed with love, hope and destiny.

One thing that I notice throughout the story is that there is a lot of give and take. For every positive occurrence it seems there is a corresponding negative occurrence or outcome. It seems to affirm that there is a balance to life and destiny. There are several examples that lead me to this conclusion.

Toward the end of the book, there are some surprising twists and very important information revealed. This is a very interesting story with likable characters that are developing slowly throughout.

What about Stephanie Terry’s performance did you like?

She nailed the characters. Her change in pitch, accent, cadence, and modulation were close to perfect.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were many parts of the book that had me laughing out loud. There were a couple of parts that caused a lump in my throat.

Any additional comments?

I just had the opportunity to listen to Runes on Audible in exchange for an honest review.

The experience of listening to a book that I love, being narrated so well, has added an entirely new layer to the experience of this story. I truly feel as though Raine actually took time to tell me her story. It feels so much more personal.

I am a fan, and I hope to be able to listen to the rest of the series one day. Stephanie Terry does a phenomenal job in bringing this book to life.

Captivating Series

Would you consider the audio edition of Runes to be better than the print version?

I had read this entire series a while ago. I was so grateful for a chance to reprise this series by listening to this audiobook. With it, I could finally hear the actual voice of each character and not only what I had created in my head.

What about Stephanie Terry’s performance did you like?

Stephanie Terry did a great job on narrating the story and projecting all of the voices of the main characters. She made me fall even more for Torin by putting on that British accent. His voice is now an earworm to my ears, but I don't mind at all since I have a knack for U.K.'s accent. :)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I had listened this audiobook at work for just a day. I was captivated by it. I was in gazed whenever Torin's voice came on. I felt like I was watching a play in a theatre. :)

Any additional comments?

I would definitely listen to the next installment.
