Publisher's summary

After leaving Society and desperately searching for the Rising - and each other - Cassia and Ky have found what they were looking for, but at the cost of losing each other yet again: Cassia has been assigned to work for the Rising from within Society, while Ky has been stationed outside its borders. But nothing is as predicted, and all too soon the veil lifts and things shift once again.

In this gripping conclusion to the number-one New York Times-best-selling Matched Trilogy, Cassia will reconcile the difficulties of challenging a life too confining, seeking a freedom she never dreamed possible, and honoring a love she cannot live without.

The popularity of Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games trilogy and its film adaptations has paved the way for so many great dystopian books and series in YA, imagining harrowing worlds where teens must fight for survival and define what life means to them. The enduring popularity of the series has proven that dystopian stories and the sometimes-dark futures they imagine are endlessly fascinating to our imaginations.

2020 changes everything

I've been meaning to listen this trilogy for a long time and I actually started in January of 2020 before the pandemic. It's funny how everything can change... how something so horrible and wide spread as a pandemic seems like it could never happen.

The first book in this series is by far the best

The first book, Matched, is great! The second book, Crossed, is slow, but seems to be building to an exciting third and final book. Unfortunately, that is not what this book delivered. Instead of an action packed conclusion, what I got was added confusion and lack of momentum. This book was simultaneously "all over the place" and stagnant. Some of the concepts related to the plague, the cure, and the statistical sorting were interesting, but all these components did not come together very neatly in the end. The conclusion of this book was trying very hard to wrap everything up, but I felt like there was some vital component of the story still missing. And I agree with another reviewer in that I also would have liked a little more insight into the enemy. Overall, I was disappointed with this book.

Boring

fascinating premise reduced to a minor love story, and the readers were really slow. I had to listen to it at minimum of 2x

Excellent Series!!

Loved the whole series & especially the performance which made it perfectly clear which character was portrayed at any given time. Couldn't turn book off ("put it down") when usually would with most other books....wish there were more in the series but understand when it was time to end it too.

ending let down

The first two books in this series were fantastic. this third one was so hard to get through...so boring and long and yet skipped so much of a story that it just didn't flow well. the narration was good. but wouldn't recommend this series because it's always such a bummer to get to the end to be totally let down.

life changing.

I only wish there was more. I read this in Middle School and then just reread it now as an adult and I can honestly say it is life changing.

Good ending to the trilogy

I enjoyed the last book as much as the first. I was hoping Cassia made a different choice, but that’s what this entire series is about; the freedom to choose and express oneself.
Some parts seem a bit far fetched, but altogether, it works and I’d recommend it to others.

A Great Finale

This was a wonderful end to the series that brought back some of the emotional connection of the original. Unlike something like Divergent's finale, Reached made excellent use of multiple narrators and brought events to good finality without locking in the entire future of every character. I felt satisfied with the world and the story at the end, but also invested in the story as it unfurled. I was especially happy with Xander as a character, who became much more three-dimensional in this story. As a group, Xander, Ky, and Cassia were not wholly annoying with the love triangle and actually realized that there were more important happenings.

Just read the book

What made the experience of listening to Reached the most enjoyable?

Having 3 different people read the book is way too confusing. I read the first two books on my nook and I loved the story but having to adjust to each narrators voices at each new chapter is annoying. Ky's narrator speaks like he's in a cheesy soap opera

How could the performance have been better?

One narrator
