Publisher's summary

Jason Carrillo is a jock with a steady girlfriend, but he can't stop dreaming about sex...with other guys.

Kyle Meeks doesn't look gay, but he is. And he hopes he never has to tell anyone - especially his parents.

Nelson Glassman is "out" to the entire world, but he can't tell the boy he loves that he wants to be more than just friends.

Three teenage boys, coming of age and out of the closet. In a revealing debut novel that percolates with passion and wit, Alex Sanchez follows these very different high-school seniors as their struggles with sexuality and intolerance draw them into a triangle of love, betrayal, and ultimately, friendship.

Mixed feelings

The characters were well-written, and their relationships with each other and their families felt real. The book feels like a morality play, to a certain extent. The moral was heavy-handed, although I appreciate that people are writing books about how hard life is for teens in general, and the added difficulty of being lgbtq.
The details, though... it felt like it was set in 1990. Tapes? A chain-smoking teen? The over-all homophobic atmosphere? Oof. Or the author hasn’t really paid attention to teen culture since 1990... this part made it pretty painful to get through, honestly. Of course, I say that, but at the same time, when it ended I burst out “Wait, that’s it?!” So... lol Yeah. 4 stars.

Terrible narration!

The narrator is the stereotypical prissy pants that straight people visualize with “gay guys.” His voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Come on people! The majority of us are not limp wristed nor effeminate. Let’s get real!

A fumbling Time capsule into adulthood.

the feels like a time capsule of days where anxiety was closer than your best friend could ever be. A wonderful listen and I was so invested in the characters that by the end of the book I felt like I knew them.

It was okay

Not all stories aimed at YA have a moral point of view, but this one does. Gay boys best be as chaste as possible and anything else will leave one traumatized, at the very least. It galls me that the act of intimacy that was most fully described was the one that was ... err... problematic.

It is a cute story and the three boys are suitably developed characters, but seem less adolescent than their years might indicate.

Enjoyable and sweet

I enjoyed this one quite a bit. It was nice how it didn’t turn in to gay teen porn by cheaper 2 lol

So Relatable

We all have our own stories of how it happened and the courage that it took. I really enjoyed this book and could relate to each of the characters in one way or another.

I think it souuld be mandatory reading for adolescents and parents. I love the way it showed all sides. I would have liked it to become a series.
