Critic Reviews

"Pullman is as fine a writer as there is for young people, and this book is a small gem." ( Booklist)

Very enjoyable.

I loved it. A very easy listen. Couldn't quit listening until it was finished. I love all of these stories. This one made me want more just as the others have.

If you like His Dark Materials....

You should listen to this. It offers the same charm and delightful characterizations but has many of the same problems (mainly plot related, and in this case a bit dreary in the middle) as his other books. Worth it for me, as I love escaping into this universe.

Short and sweet

Very good. Super short. Wish it was a longer journey into the world of Philip Pullman

Great Fun

This was a fun "origin" type story for Yorik and Leif, great background and I enjoyed spending more time with two of my favorite characters.

Great story just didn't like some of the narration

I didn't much like the voice of Lee Scoresbe, It didn't seem to match what I imagined his character to sound like. I was expecting it to be lower. I also didn't enjoy how they had Iorek talk.

The meeting of the Texas and the Bear.

I so appreciated this story of how they met.
As always, his writing is wonderful.
The bit about the rifle 35 years later brought tears to my eyes.

Adventure, wit, and wisdom

Phillip Pullman's works deserve to be part of school curriculum to help raise wiser generations. Young people can learn from his enchanting adventures to discern value of science and democracy.

Fun to hear how these 2 met!

I really loved this story about how ballooning and bear met. Sometimes you land in a place and don't know what to expect....those times can be the most memorable!
