Publisher's summary

Maddie doesn't believe in luck. She's all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night she buys a lottery ticket on a whim, and, to her astonishment, she wins!

In a flash Maddie's life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships - nope, now she's suddenly talking about renting a yacht and basking in the spotlight at school! But then rumors start flying, and random people begin asking her for loans. Suddenly Maddie finds that she isn't sure whom she can trust.

Except for Seth Nguyen. Her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo doesn't seem to be aware of her big news - and, for some reason, she doesn't want to tell him. What would happen if the one person she still trusts were to find out?

With tons of humor and heart, Kasie West delivers a million-dollar tale of winning, losing, and falling in love.

This YA fell flat

I usually love Kasie West books but this one fell flat for me. I only saw Seth as a friend and nothing more. There was no chemistry or character development. Very predictable results from lottery. Sadly not worth my credit.

Was a miss for me

Would you try another book from Kasie West and/or Laurence Bouvard?

This was my first Kasie West book and I can't help feeling a little underwhelmed. I'd been looking forward to this one for a while because that cover featured a really cute Asian guy and from his last name I guessed he was of Vietnamese ancestry.

The cover really fooled me a I guess. If I took one look at that cover(like I did) I would have assumed this book relied heavily on romance. The romance is so little of the book and it's really more about how differently people change when a young girl gets lucky from winning the lottery.

I was a little disappointed because I was super excited picking up a YA contemporary romance with an Asian LI, who was fun and hot because they never get a chance to be that in mainstream media, but this really wasn't that. If you wanna read books about cute Asian boys I'd suggest anything by Cindy Pon or The Sun is also a Star by Nicola Yoon. The only thing I really liked about Seth was that he reminded me of dumb but lovable Josh Chan from C***y Ex girlfriend. Seth was so darn dense it was actually kind of cute but the narrator did a really bad job at capturing his voice. She narrated everyone else decently but her male voices are just okay.

Overall this is a cute, light, fluffy summer read but if you're looking for more plot, this won't be the book for you.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

A male narrator to do the male voices.

Light, sweet read

What did you love best about Lucky in Love?

The story was clean and sweet-- typical of Kasie West. Still not as good as "The Distance Between Us" but superior to "By Your Side".

What was one of the most memorable moments of Lucky in Love?

I really enjoyed the nerdy side of Maddie. I liked whenever she spewed random facts out.

How could the performance have been better?

Pretty much EVERYTHING could have been better. The only voices this narrator does well are adult women. Her mom voice was actually really good. But the way she read for the main character was grating-- lucky for the listener that the book is IN FIRST PERSON!!! BRUTAL! The popular girl got a valley girl voice. The boy voices were horrible and absolutely indescribable. I will think twice about listening to another genre narrated by Laurence Bouvard. But I would never listen to another book read by her that has many teen characters in it. They are not her forte.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Honestly, it wasn't a book I wanted to listen to at all. I bought the kindle book and plan on returning the audiobook. It's THAT bad. I'd certainly want to READ it all in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

Go for the print edition if you are not one to get past poor narration. Laurence Bouvard might be a fabulous performer for other genres-- her voices are not suited for teenage characters.

Normally love her books

I had a hard time with this one. The characters were fine but there wasn't enough relationship development in this book. That is usually the opposite with her books.
I just found this book a little boring.
I also had a really hard time listening to some of the voices. Seth's voice made him sound like a kid with a cold. To me, everything "he" said usually came out kind of corny.
Trina's voice also bugged me. It sounded very snotty all the time. I would not be able to change my voice for so many characters so I am not trying to criticize the reader, but it was hard to listen to. I was really looking forward to this one but this isn't one I will re listen to. I loved "p.s. I like you", so if you are looking for a good one...

Not the best book

Lucky in Love by Kasie West feels like it’s her first book—to much minutiae dragged it out. Still fun, but not as much as her other books.

In my opinion the narrator is so obnoxious I couldn’t get past a couple of chapters!!!!

Sweet story, not my fave narrator

I would've enjoyed it more if the female narrator hadn't made the 18 year old male characters sounds like they belonged in grade school.

Not something I would recommend.

The male character voices are so off putting! The story line is ok. Literally just ok. I feel like this whole story was a waste of precious time.
I kept listening, hoping it would get better but it never did. Very disappointing.
Also, the title leads you to believe that this is a romance but that is hardly the case. Spoiler alert, it’s based on an 18 year old girl who wins the lotto, and the mistakes and lessons she makes and learns from this...
