Attack.

Not isolated.

Fate of Americans: unknown.

Amy is watching TV when the world is attacked by Them. Most of the population is overtaken, but Amy manages to survive - and even rescue "Baby" - a toddler she finds in an abandoned supermarket.

Then, after years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope, a colony of survivors living in a former government research compound. While at first the colony seems like a dream, with plenty of food, safety, and shelter, New Hope slowly reveals that it is far from ideal. And Amy soon realizes that unless things change, she'll lose Baby - and much more.

You'll tear through the pulse-pounding narrow escapes and horrifying twists of fate in this thrilling debut from author Demitria Lunetta.

great book

If you could sum up In the After in three words, what would they be?

awesome new series

What about Julia Whelan’s performance did you like?

i thought she did a good job. She put emotion into it, and thats has a lot to do with how much you are going to enjoy the book. I don't care how great a book is; if you have a bad narrater, you can't enjoy the book.

Superb story telling

Where does In the After rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is very high of my list of favorite audio books. The narrator does a great job of making each character an individual. The story in the case is fascinating - the author conveys the scene, the mood, the smell with great skill without being verbose. I didn't realize this story was classified as young adult and I don't know if I would characterize it as that. It's a story about a teenager, but it's a very grown up story with themes that aren't particularly youthful. I seek out apocalyptic stories and especially liked this one with a female lead. Amy is smart and likeable. Her closest comparison is probably Katness from the Hunger Games series. I found her to be much more real and likeable than Katness. You won't find Amy whining in a corner. I can't wait for the sequel to In the After - I can't believe I have a whole year of waiting for it!

What was one of the most memorable moments of In the After?

I don't want to give away any details of the plot, but I think any scene with Amber and what she reveals to us about herself, human nature and our favorite characters.

Have you listened to any of Julia Whelan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't, but I would seek her out again.

Wow, Couldn't Stop listening

This was on my wishlist for a few months before I caved and bought it. I listened to it in less than 3 days - so well written & performed. The story kept me wanting more, and the main character was so relatable. Can't wait to listen to the next one!

surprised

I wasn't in love with where it had turned at one point but I did like the conclusion. It was very entertaining.

Meh

It was a decent book. I see it as a "scary movie" parody. Taking bits of many different stories to create something new-ish. Given the time frame it was written, it's possible that it was more original upon it's release. Overall I say go for it, but I won't be using a credit to further the story for myself.

What a ride!

I didn’t put this book down once except to sleep the whole way through. It was different, fun, beautifully read ... I really loved it. Fortunately or unfortunately it’s a to be continued book - kind of stops abruptly in the middle of a sentence. I hate it when that happens.

Surprised

I really enjoyed this book. It was rather confusing when it kept jumping from the past to present, but it made sense towards the end. I’m looking forward to book 2 and hopefully for more.

A different kind of post apocalyptic novel

If you could sum up In the After in three words, what would they be?

A great story. Not the typical post apocalyptic novel. Easy read (listen) but keeps you engaged.

What does Julia Whelan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Like many others, I found this book while looking for other Julia Whelan performances. She does a great job. Love all her stuff so far.
