Publisher's summary

From the author of We Were Liars, which John Green called "utterly unforgettable", comes a mind-bending, New York Times best-selling thriller told in reverse.

Imogen lives at the Playa Grande Resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. She spends her days working out in the hotel gym and telling other guests how she was forced out of Stanford.

But Imogen isn't really Imogen. She's Jule. And she's on the run from something. Or someone. Which means...where is the real Imogen?

Rewind: Jule and Imogen are the closest of friends. Obsessed with each other, even. Imogen is an orphan, an heiress; she and Jule spend a summer together in a house on Martha's Vineyard, sharing secrets they'd never reveal to another soul.

But that was months ago. Where is Immie now? And why is Jule using her name?

Don't miss, Family of Liars, the eagerly anticipated prequel to the New York Times best-selling phenomenon, We Were Liars. Available in May 2022!

Loved We Were Liars but this fell short

I love We Were Liars but this seemed messy and inconclusive. Half way through the story you discover the "twist" and the rest of the book tries to explain it with very little excitement.

Loved it!

Very interesting way of how the story was presented. Very clever, and I've never would have thought of that sequence... Loved it!

Disappointed

I think this story had great bones. The skipping around chronologically was too distracting. I would have liked more in the ending.

Ending

The story line was phenomenal and totally kept my attention. My only complaint is the ending. It left off with several question still looming. However, the structure of the book was a very fun read.

Like Memento in book form

Really starting to love E Lockhart. This story is told in the same style as Memento, but a completely different story. Enjoy.

Unexpected Delight!

At first I wasn’t a fan of the narration, but then after the first couple of chapters the narration got wickedly good. I didn’t know quite what to expect with this book, but it turned out to be creepy and disturbing in a good way. I really enjoyed the story and the backwards storytelling didn’t bother me at all. I kept listening to learn more about this odd and dangerous girl at the center of the story. It was very interesting and the ending was very appropriate.

Alright!

I absolutely hated the protagonist, but I really loved the build up and how until halfway the book I was still trying to figure it out. However, after a point it gets quite predictable... and I totally ADORED the performance!

Strange story

I liked that it was a fast read. Nice for a quick short book I took on a road trip and finished in one day. The story kept moving backwards which is better than jumping around in timeline.
