Publisher's summary

They're powerless without her - she's powerless to resist.

The list of reasons why Lexus Wren is the last girl any guy would be interested in is mercilessly long:

Her dad's in prison for murder, her mom drowns her sorrows every night at Dave's Dive, and Lexus is just trying to survive the cruelties of high school as a painfully shy bookworm with a bad wardrobe, and a collection of nervous habits. Never, in a million years, did Lexus expect to draw the eyes of two hunky transfer students, Phoenix and Griffin Easton.

The troubled brothers are haunted by their own demons, and don't seem bothered by Lexus' tarnished reputation. They're too busy trying to figure out why touching her makes them feel like electricity is frying their insides, and why they're compelled to obey her every command.

You'd think having two hot guys vying for her would improve her reputation, but the bullying at home and school only gets worse. When Lexus' problems reach a critical tipping point, the boys are drawn to protect her, and the truth about their powerful connection is revealed in an explosive confrontation that will astound them all.

If you like paranormal romance stories with supernatural magic, a love triangle hotter than Twilight, and John Green style teenage angst, you'll be captivated by Flightless Bird!

Flightless Bird

A well-written book, full of interesting characters. Lexus is an unpopular teenager due to her father being in prison, her mother being a drunk & all the things that go with her parentage. She dresses in thrift store clothes & often doesn't have enough to eat.

When she meets a set of gorgeous twin boys at the bar where her mother drinks, her life begins to change. Phoenix & Griffin both seem to be falling for her & she loves both of them. But, can she choose between them?

The narrator does a very good job, but the sound quality was a little scratchy. Not enough to be distracting, but it was noticeable.

I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

First audio book for me

Excellent way to read and drive! Must more interesting than the radio (or static!) Voice was great for this story.

Couldn’t finish

Might be an awesome book but I could not make myself finish due to the narration so I’ll never know. Most monotone voice just sounds like she’s reading from a page. I couldn’t complete it and doubt I read the book.

Hard too chose. I really love the three main caracters and how they were drawn to each other.

Which character – as performed by Heather Taylor – was your favorite?

The twins : Phenix and Griffin

Any additional comments?

I really love the first two books. Can't wait to read the third ones.

Not a fan of love triangle

Its a good start to a YA paranormal romance series. We don't get to know much in this first installment though. The story development is very slow so we only get a glimpse of what is going on with Lexus and her boys at the end of the book. That's ok i can live with that cliffhanger, its a series so will have to keep reading to find out what happens. The biggest struggle i have though is the love triangle. I hate love triangle! Maybe that's why the competition or jaleousy between the twins to win the attention of Lexus got on my nerves. That does'nt mean i wont give a shot for the second book of this series cause i want to know what happens next but the love triangle thing... argh...not.a.fan. If you also like your books in audiobooks try it the narration is good.

Great book

Where does Flightless Bird rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It would be on my Top 10 list.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lexus, Phoenix, and Griffin are just such great character, working together to help and protect each other, that I couldn't name one.

Have you listened to any of Heather Taylor’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I'm going to check her other books. I loved her.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me cry, but the characters actions gave me hope as well.

Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to more of the series. It ended abruptly, and left me wanting for more.

A sizzling read!

"They're powerless without her; she's powerless to resist."

A shy, awkward girl...
Two brothers...
A love triangle...
Sparks... both literally and figuratively speaking.

Lexus's home life is so sad and bad. I swear I hear my heart cracking. I want to cry for her, hold her and never let go. High school children are so mean. Sending all the hugs, girl!

Two brothers. One girl. A race to win her heart. Who will win? Who will capture her heart? Who will she choose?

I'm so horrified! My heart broke for Lexus! Lexus has to deal with self-esteem issues, physical and emotional abuse among other things.

Full of confusion, sparks, love-triangles, competition, secrets, power, love, teenage angst, abuse and turmoil.

Perfect for readers of paranormal romances.

I really enjoyed listening to the story but felt the narrator was a bit emotionless when reading it. I really loved this story and listening to the come alive was magical!

Much More Than Your Typical Teen Romance

Flightless Bird may be written for the YA/Teen genre however I am 45 years old and thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters are wise beyond their years due to all they have been through. This book touches on many issues that we have either faced ourselves or know someone who has including self esteem, abuse and drugs. The pacing and story line was strong and steady through the entire book. I highly recommend Flightless Bird to any Paranormal Romance lover and I am looking forward to Book #2.

Good teen/ya romance w/hint of fantasy

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

make the fantasy come earlier

Any additional comments?

Flightless Bird: The Caged Series, Book 1
Written by: Kellie McAllen
Narrated by: Heather Taylor
This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
This is a great teen/young adult book that has characters that are well developed and a plot that is pretty good. The girl is a loner due to a drunk mom and she is poor, she is picked on at school every year. This year she meets twin good looking guys that are new to town and both take a liking to her. They are foster kids. Both boys are trying to win her over. The fantasy part of the book doesn't come in until the very end and only in teasing bits. This is my only complaint. I would have liked this story to have more fantasy and have it arrive earlier. Also, it leaves the book hanging. I give this a 3 1/5 rounding up to 4 stars. A good book but would be better if the fantasy would be started earlier and not a cliff hanger. At least to me. :)
The narration is just right for this teen/young adult book!

horrible narrator

The book it's self is not bad. The story line is interesting and captures your attention. However the narrator was horrible! so very monotone, very dull and boring. I almost didn't finish the book because of this. Please get a new narrator!!!
