Publisher's summary

Picking up right where Trial By Fire left off, Firewalker is another sexy, fast-paced, heartbreaking thrill ride from internationally best-selling author Josephine Angelini!

I'm a Witch, and Witches burn.

Lily is back in her own universe, and she's ready to relax with Rowan. True, she almost died in the Pyre that fueled their escape, and must hide her magic for the safety of the world, but compared to fighting the monstrous Woven and leading armies in the alternate Salem, life is looking good.

You think I'm a monster, but my choices, as ruthless as they seem, are justified.

Unfortunately, Lillian, ruthless ruler of the 13 Cities, is not willing to let Lily go that easily. If she can't persuade Lily to return to her world, she'll have to find a way to make her come back.

loved it

Any additional comments?

I didn't check that the third book was not available. I only do audible books and am really disappointed that I can't get the last book.

Disappointed

The first book was well balanced rhythm but the 2nd book takes too long to get moving and and then ends too early. I ended the book feeling like I got cheated. I should feel like I can't wait to hear the next book but now I don't even think I will buy it.

Much Better

Would you listen to Firewalker again? Why?

Yes, I might when I do my usual re-listen of the books in my library.

What did you like best about this story?

I just love the broken down mechanics of magic. Magic isn't some flighty element that someone just HAS for the fun of it. No unicorns and rainbows. Magic has to be built up with so many components with the help of others. It's dirty and bloody and gross. Logical, hard worked for magic is the best magic.

The muddied morality of each character is a beautiful breath of fresh air, as well. Not everyone is straight evil and not everyone is a saint.

Also, I liked the additional characters brought into this novel so that the two worlds intermingle and are just plain messed up.

What does Emma Galvin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

First of all, I highly enjoy her performance in this series.

There must be something in Lily's character that really makes Emma Galvin give it her all when performing that the "Divergent Series" didn't have. Perhaps it's the POV and first person just isn't the best for Emma. I've listened to her rendition of "Mediator: Haunted," and though anything would be better than the "Divergent" Tris whine, Emma just seems to be more comfortable in third person.

That being said, I don't think I could listen to another narrator when the third novel comes out. I swear, if they go down the usual road of getting a male narrator to voice out some lines after two solid novels of just a solo reader, I WILL...still listen to it, but be peeved.

There are a lot of characters, and although no one can top Jim Dale in the voice-to-each-character department, she did a fine job giving the voices just what they needed to avoid confusion.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Hmn, there is one specific instance that I'm sure everyone is aware of. Lily promises something that I believe my fellow listeners were like, "Nope! Lily, you silly girl, can't you see you've promised yourself into a plot device that you'll later regret down the road? Geeze!"

Any additional comments?

If you had doubts from the first novel, this one should smooth out the wrinkles for you.

Miscommunication after miscommunication

A series based on miscommunications draws reader in over and over again to dump her in a morass of frustration.

great story, terrible narrator

I really enjoyed this story. It was a bit predictable, but it was very well told. It was difficult to get used to the narrator's unusual inflections. She read almost every sentence with a dramatic tone. I wish I had just bought the book instead of audio. I cannot wait for the next book in this series and I'm certain I will enjoy it in its printed format as I did the first one.

Just as good as the first one!

If you could sum up Firewalker in three words, what would they be?

Really Awesome Book!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lilly is my favorite character, but I love the whole coven even Rowan. Lilly is my favorite because she is tough but still compassionate. She could've become Lillian but she tries to find other options to fix the issues. No matter how much she agrees with Lillian she won't make the same choices. She will find a better way.

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved it when they woke in a field of flowers at the new city.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I so mad at Rowan when he took Lilly's will stones I almost cried, I had to stop listening I was so angry.

Any additional comments?

I love both of these books The new world that is described is awesome! It's fun to imagine the magic and things that could be better because of it. How some things are the same and others not so much.

better than book 1

So this trilogy feels like it was written as 1 book and only after seeing how big it was, divided into 3 more manageable books. It doesn't flow like most trilogies do where even if there is the one big stories each book has value by it self, as in the event, drama, adventure that starts within that book is resolved within that book even if it help further the bigger picture and sometimes leave a cliffhanger. This just doesn't do that.
I was very frustrated with book 1. it is basically just an introduction of the premise, the characters, the worlds. every question was left unanswered. don't get me wrong a cliff hanger is fine but that was too much.
book 2 you get all the answers you needed in book 1 but she opens up a whole new story line that again is left unanswered that will be answered in book 3 (btw not available on audible or in audiobook form anywhere I can find).
combined book 1 and 2 would make a better book. a lot can be taken out of book 1. it still wouldn't be brilliant but would make more sens than how she has done it now.
The story itself isn't bad even if some of the reasoning is stupid.
the only reason I will read the third book is because now that I've gone this far I want to know the end. but if you haven't started the series yet don't bother there are better books out there.

Gripping Sequel

I'm surprised by how much I like Josephine Angelini's Worldwalker series. I rocketed through Trial by Fire and then was incredibly eager to read the sequel. My reaction after finishing Firewalker was much the same. I sped through it and then immediately put the forthcoming sequel, Witch's Pyre, on my "highly anticipated" list.

Firewalker begins just moments after Trial by Fire concluded. Lily and Rowan have escaped to Lily's world. After a desperate recovery, Lily and Rowan begin to build a new coven, somewhat reluctantly, in order to keep Lily safe. All the while, Lillian works to get Lily to return to her world.

This series is fast-paced and gripping. It's hard to stop listening. I'm pretty sure it kept me up too late many nights. Firewalker is the best type of sequel. It reminds you why you loved the first book and the characters so much and stands on its own merit.

Also, I really enjoy the audio versions of this series. I like listening to Emma Galvin's voice, and I can't imagine consuming this series in any other format.
