Publisher's Summary

The faerie Magpie Windwitch, granddaughter of the West Wind, flies over the ocean with her small flock of crows. Ill-advised sailors all too often open bottles floating near their ships, and Magpie has vowed to recapture the devils released upon the world from their sea-borne containers. But there is one bottle in which a great menace was trapped by the ancient Djinn King, and when this bottle is opened, the evil of the Blackbringer threatens to engulf the world. Magpie has never faced anything even remotely as dangerous, and her quest to save the land soon involves dragons, a tattooed princeling, and Magpie's hero, the legendary Bellatrix.

Splendid!

Don't turn away because this is a kids book. What an awesome story! I absolutely loved it and read it straight through.
Davina Porter is a MASTER at the narration. This is a perfect book to read with your kids AND for those into fantasy. And fans of D. Porter will most definitely not be disappointed.
Buy it.

Faeries of Dreamdark (Unabridged)

What a wonderful surprise! And with Davina Porter's wonderful vocal character added - it is a joy.

A delightful new world

If you could sum up Faeries of Dreamdark in three words, what would they be?

Brave, fierce and loving.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the relationship between Magpie and her Crow Brothers and I thought the dialog was excellent.

Which character – as performed by Davina Porter – was your favorite?

She was perfect as every character. I loved her when she was playing one of the Crows.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but it took two.

Any additional comments?

This was my favorite fantasy world since I stepped through the wardrobe into Narnia.

Davina Porter is my hero

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The story was very original, but what made this listen sing was the narration by Davina Porter. Maybe I am just in love with Scottish accents, but she was able to give each character a personality and emotion. I can't say enough about this book. Loved it.

What other book might you compare Faeries of Dreamdark to and why?

I've never read anything similar.

Fantastic!

I have read both Blackbringer and Silksinger and loved them so much that I bought the audiobooks. Davina Porter captures the spirit of Magpie Windwitch and the crows perfectly. Not only is this a wonderful story it is also superbly narrated.

An amazing story.

Would you listen to Faeries of Dreamdark again? Why?

Definitely. The story is meant for a younger audience but it was wonderful to listen to.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters and their personalities. They all had their quirks and the narrator did a wonderful job at bringing that out.

What about Davina Porter’s performance did you like?

Everything!

Prepare to enter a very cool, very original world!

Where does Faeries of Dreamdark rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's one of the best performed I've ever heard. Davina Porter sucks you into Laini Taylor's world and carries you along. It's easy to get swept away as if you've got your own set of fairy wings.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I like the crows, Magpie's companions, but I can't choose one specifically. They add a little extra bit to Magpie's character since they practically raised her; they're her flock, her friends, her parents and each gives a different thing in their relationship with Magpie and the other Faeries of Dreamdark.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There are many, many funny moments! I often laughed out loud. There are also many emotional moments that had me choking up. These sorts of books are often painful to endure, but they're also the best when you come out on the other side better for having experienced it.

Any additional comments?

Humans are basically not even a part of the storyline (they exist, but only briefly arise and go away again), so we see everything from the Faeries' points of view. The main characters are fun and witty; there are all sorts of Fae creatures involved, and animals that talk, specifically birds. The bad guys, or Djinn, are interesting creatures, and the magic used to (try to) defeat them is very cool. I've never read anything like it.The plot flowed, the characters were developed, humor was in all the right places, the danger was severe enough that it kept you on your toes (or rather, kept you turning pages)... It's a really fun read, and I can't wait to read the next one.

Enchanting adventure full of the unexpected

I love when a world springs so fully from imagination. When you never know what to expect because the author's dreamed up inventions are so charmingly unique. Now this isn't to say that you never see things coming or that basic plot points like everything working out in the end aren't predictable (this is after all a feel good story) but the details of the world and the nuances of how you go from beginning to end are full of new flavors. The writing is beautiful and the narration appropriate. I throughly enjoyed it and will start the next book as soon as I finish this sentence.

Pretty good, rest of the series will be better

I am writing this review having read the second book in the series already so I can look back with that perspective in mind. I enjoyed this book, although I've already read Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone series and this was not as good. It did set up an interesting world of fairies, though, and the second book builds on that. So if you enjoyed this book, go ahead and get the next one, it's even better. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
