5 for story, 1 for performance

Fablehaven is one of my favorite series. I've read the books more than a couple times. This was my first time with the audio versions and I'm debating on whether or not to finish because of the way E.B. Stevens performs my beloved characters. I don't consider myself to be overly feminist, but the way he depicts the many strong female characters is insulting. He gives almost every one, even Grandma Sorensen, an attitude when the story and character description doesn't call for it at all. Everything Kendra says comes out with a bratty stereotypical "entitled teenage girl" tone, as if he pictures her speaking to everyone with a hand on one hip and rolling her eyes. And that is not Kendra. It makes me sad to think there are young audiences out there experiencing this amazing series for the first time through his warped understanding of these characters. It changes the entire tone of the series. Kendra is both strong AND kind. She loves her brother, and that's evident even when he annoys her, but you wouldn't get that from how he reads it. If it were subtle or only happened sporadically, I could move on. But it's distracting enough to make me hesitant to purchase the remaining two books.

Love Fablehaven!!! These books are fantastic fun!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a must for children or anyone for that matter. The whole series is a must read but this one in particular has a few of my favorite elements. The other magical creature preserve they visit is spectacular. The pacing is perfect, the descriptions really bring you there, this is a magical vacation. Now I'm just waiting for the rest of the series to come up.

What did you like best about this story?

It's fun and light and magical.

Which character – as performed by E. B. Stevens – was your favorite?

E. B. Stevens is not my favorite (sry) but favorite characters abound none the less. Patton is an obvious standout and the voice of the demon was well done.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Forget Hogwarts, leave Narnia behind the real adventure awaits at Fablehaven! (please god say they are making these into movies!)

Any additional comments?

Not to be missed.

Best narration I have ever listened to

I love how far they go with the vocal effects for these series. It is about as close as you can get to reading a favorite book for the first time all over again. I am excited to listen to the rest of the series!

Fun story. Horrible narration.

The story isn't bad and I like that it is kid friendly, but this is the worst narrator I've ever heard.

Great story, narration is awful

I love this book series but the narrator ruins the audiobook, I would just read the book and don’t waste a credit.
