Publisher's summary

Lucky Linderman doesn’t want to wake up.

Lucky Linderman has been the target of Nader McMillan’s relentless bullying for as long as he can remember. But he has a secret—one that helps him wade through the mundane torture of his life. In his dreams, Lucky escapes to the war-ridden jungles of Laos, where his grandfather, who never came home from the Vietnam War, is still trapped. There, Lucky can be a real man and maybe even a hero. But how long can he keep hiding in his dreams before reality forces its way inside? Printz Honor recipient A.S. King’s boldly original writing shines in this powerful novel about learning to cope with the shrapnel life throws at you—and taking a stand against it.

absolutely excellent

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book breaks down its character into imperfect humans as you would expect but doesn't bother with glorifying the flaws of its characters. It does not try to apologize or excues its characters' flaws. It just presents them to us. To me, that was absolutely amazing

What was one of the most memorable moments of Everybody Sees the Ants?

There is this very intence bully scene that the main character references throughout the novel that really brings clarity to his fear of facing his bulley's

What about Kirby Heyborne’s performance did you like?

EVERYTHING. He was a perfect performer of just about every character.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"Everybody sees the ants" probably. It may be the title but its also the most important message of the book!

Any additional comments?

This book is such an important read for anyone who is looking for a deep emotional novel. Don't expect romance or late night walks on the beach. This is about some of our darkest human flaws. Cowardice. Escapism. Bullying. Ignoring problems. There is so much to dig through in this book. It is wonderfully, wonderfully full.

I couldn't stop listening.

Great young adult read. Coming of age, bullying, first kiss dysfunctional family and a satisfying ending ate all incorporated in Kirby Heyborne's novel.

Everybody Sees the Ants

I have to admit I had a hard time getting into the book at the beginning, but I ended up loving it. It addressed some very difficult topics with humor and honesty.
