Publisher's summary

From YouTube sensation Marzia "CutiePieMarzia" Bisognin comes a debut young adult paranormal thriller about a girl whose dream house quickly becomes a nightmare.

When Amethyst comes across her perfect dream house, she can't help but be enchanted by it, even if there's something a little...off about the place. It's everything she's ever wanted in a home, so when the Blooms invite her to stay the night to avoid the impending storm, she instantly accepts.

Yet when she wakes the next morning, alone and unable to bring herself to leave, Amethyst comes face to face with unexpected twists and turns - like Alfred, the creepy gardener; Avery, the handsome but secretive neighbor; and a little girl who keeps appearing and vanishing within the house.

As Amethyst searches for the Blooms and tries to unravel the truth, her connection to the house only grows stronger. Will she be able to break free of the house's allure, or will its secrets keep her trapped forever?

I love Marzia but...

I didn't realize she had written a book and was elated when I saw that she had. I quickly selected it without thinking of looking at reviews. While Marzia is a beautiful artist and had a successful YouTube career, her book fell flat for me. I wanted to like it, but couldn't find myself coiled in the characters or atmosphere. I was probably as confused as the main character for the majority of listening. It felt like the makings of something great but lacked a sense of realism. I never felt engrossed in the environment and the actions of the character seemed odd. Her decisions and timing felt like they wouldn't really play out that way, or rather our narrator was realizing things that shouldn't be realized just yet. Everything, every sentence, seemed like a vocalized retelling of what had happened rather than what is happening in a world that is happening. Hopefully this review isn't too confusing but it's honestly how I felt during the "Dream House" narration.

Marvelous

I loved it lots, especially Day 18 and Day 21, both beautifully and excellently written.

Good Read!

Story was performed nicely. Really like Marzia and how her demeanor displays itself through her writing. the ending was slightly predictable, but was a lovely read regardless.

Have Low Expectations

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Despite my rating, I honestly don't regret listening to this novel, mostly because I knew what I was getting myself into. Don't get me wrong, I love Marzia and her channel, that's why I bought this book in the first place, but I didn't go ahead and assume she'd be the greatest writer-- that would have been a pleasant surprise! The book was well translated and delivers the creepy, yet delicate vibe, that Marzia tends to lean towards in her vlogs. However... the story fell short and felt a bit drawn-out despite already being short. I only stuck around to hear the all-too-predictable ending. I'll give her credit for writing though! On a side not, I thought the narrator's voice was perfect for the role.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Nothing I didn't expect. I sort of figured out halfway through the story.

Which scene was your favorite?

Strangely enough... Nothing stuck with me.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.

Any additional comments?

tl;dr -- An interesting premise, but a boring execution. Felt longer than it actually is.

A good read, interesting storyline, easy read

Being a Marzipan I just had to give it a try. Overall, it was a nice read. Wish the setting of the house and the place was less horror cliche, and while having detailed descriptions are good, too much detailed description slowed down the pace of the storylines and cuts off the tension it tries to develop. The highlight of the book is most definitely the ending and the mysterious romance, and it could be further elaborated as some parts were left unexplained in the end regarding some details about the mysterious events happened.
