Publisher's summary

For generations, girls known as Spinsters have been called by Arras' Manipulation Services to work the looms and control what people eat, where they live, how many children they have, and even when they die. Gifted with the unusual ability to weave time with matter, 16-year-old Adelice Lewys is exactly what the Guild is looking for, and in the world of Arras, being chosen as a Spinster is everything a girl could want. It means privilege, eternal beauty, and being something other than a secretary. It also means the power to embroider the very fabric of life.

But Adelice isn’t interested. Because once you become a Spinster, there’s no turning back. Now caught in a web of lies and intrigue, Adelice must decide who to trust: her kind mentor, Enora; the handsome and mysterious valet Jost; or the charismatic Guild ambassador Cormac Patton. They each have secrets, but Adelice is about to unravel the deadliest one of all, a sinister truth that could destroy reality as she knows it.

Good story

Not the best, nor the worst. The story precept can be a little hard to follow but the characters are clear. It ends in a spot that leaves you wanting for the next In the series.

How am I supposed to wait a year for the 2nd book?

Would you listen to Crewel again? Why?

Yes, the characters are great, the story is very interesting.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Crewel?

The "jail" break!

What about Amanda Dolan’s performance did you like?

Believable voices. I'm pretty tough on voice actors, and I think she did great!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

If the Matrix and The Hunger Games had a love child, it would be Crewel!

Any additional comments?

Cannot wait until the second book comes out!

Loved it!!!

I loved the unique world that was created, something different. I'm excited to get started on the next two books.

I wish I could give this 6 STARS

Where does Crewel rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 5, very close to the top :)

What other book might you compare Crewel to and why?

The story was very different, I really can't compare to any other book I've read or listened to.

Have you listened to any of Amanda Dolan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first time listening to her, but I'll definitely see what else she's narrated. She did a great job.

Fabric of life

I adore this book and this whole series. I've never read anything like it. Gives a whole new meaning to the saying "fabric of life".

A Jewel-Listen Worthy

Crewel was a fantastic find, especially since it was an Audiable Escape! Not just one, but all 3. The narration was well done, though I always struggle when narrators do both roles. xD Call me spoiled I guess, but by no means was I disappointed by Dolans narration.

The story itself is reminiscent of The Hunger Games in a way. At the start and then the basic theme of undermining the current governmental powers.

The main character has a lot of growing to do but she develops gracefully. The romantics of the story are a slow development, which is good, but for the sake of not spoiling or jumping into the second book, that is all I can say. ;)

Just another dystopian knock off

think hunger games and the giver and basically all dystopian type books and this is just another knock off that really dragged on and never got very exciting

Young adult novel still good for for adults

Good book, for adults and young adults. Took unexpected turns and surprised me. Very much enjoyed it!
