Publisher's summary

The world has gone into the toilet. You may as well pull the handle and flush it.

You knew we were doing a pretty good job of screwing up the planet. Then the aliens showed up. They were like, "Hey, we are your friends! We are just here to help."

Lies! Billions are dead from the wars. Then came the fun virus that seemed to kill everyone except my friend Reggan. She not only survived the virus, but her blood gave us a cure.

What thanks does she get? None. She is being hunted like an animal.

Which brings you to me. I am going to find my friend, and no aliens or puppy killers better get in my way. If you are taking notes, I am Ellie. You know where I can get a gun?

Enjoyable Character, Action-Filled Story

Really enjoyed this follow-up to Zero. Ellie is a great character, and the author has given her a strong narrative voice that makes her seem very real and vivid. The plot is full of action, and pulls you right along.

I know the narrator was trying to capture Ellie's general "bad attitude" with her voice, but I found it excessive. Even when the character was having an emotional moment, it just sounded like she was angry. I was eventually able to tune it out and focus on the story, and it was still enjoyable.

This book covers the same time period as the first, from Ellie's perspective. I'm excited to see how the timeline and story proceed from here.
