It really was unfortunate that he was also the most stubborn, controlling, downright infuriating jackass she'd ever known as well. Calla has always welcomed war. But now that the final battle is upon her, there's more at stake than fighting. There's saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay's wrath. There's keeping Ansel safe, even if he's been branded a traitor. There's proving herself as the pack's alpha, facing unnamable horrors, and ridding the world of the Keepers' magic once and for all. And then there's deciding what to do when the war ends. If Calla makes it out alive, that is. In this remarkable final installment of the Nightshade trilogy, international best-selling author Andrea Cremer crafts a dynamic novel with twists and turns that will keep you breathless until its final pages.
This book seems rushed and very poorly written. The action scenes are all pretty much the same, boring and dull. The characters are the worst part of the book. Calla went from a strong and determined alpha to a manipulative and unbelievably selfish toerag. Shay has always been unpopular among readers, and after this book, I’m not sure anyone would feel sorry if Calla had let the bear have him. Honestly, Shay is the most whiny, obnoxious, annoying and selfish character ever! Nothing is right about this book. All the honorable characters suffered or died pointlessly, and all the worst characters got the happy ending. Overall, Bloodrose is a complete failure.

Any additional comments?
My problem is with the series. Here are my spoilers.
Calla - By the end of the third book she is a week willed, manipulative character. She claims to be this strong alpha warrior from book one. But being strong means you know your weaknesses as well as your strengths. By the third book I wanted to choke her ever time she says don't tell me what to do, I am an alpha, I don't need you to protect / help me. Everyone needs help and to imply you're not a strong woman cause you need help is a horrible thing to do to. She is in love with Shay from book one but she wears Ren's ring and say she won't chose. It's like she doesn't want to commit to either boy because she is hoping the war will kill one and make her choices for her. She needs Ren so she keeps her feelings for Shay in check around Ren so she can keep him dangling on a string. I hated Calla by the third book
Shay - He is a baby not an alpha. He has human ideas that he is pushing on Calla from book one. And it's not that I don't agree with him on some of the points. But it was the way he went about it. Only thing he didn't do was stomp his feet and throw himself on the ground. He doesn't care about the pack. He only cares about himself and what he wants. He even tells Calla at one point I am doing this cause I love you. Not because it's the right thing to do, Not so only he can save the world, not cause its morally wrong to stand by and watch this happen..... No its so he can get laid ....
Ren- Well was not sure about Ren at first. He was really pushing his will on all the other characters, but for anyone who has read Alpha werewolf books before this is a common flaw in the alpha males that is normally redeemed by the end of the series. And Ren is no different, by the end of the third book I wanted him to win so badly I was almost chewing on my desk. But no ... He doesn't win ... She kills him ... She didn't even write him in a new female that he could get a happy ending with.
I know the characters are suppose to be teenagers. However the author is not and when you are writing a book for YA then why would you make your hero/heroine so immature. They can start off that way sure, but they grow and learn and are better by then end of the story. I found that Shay and Calla only got worse the longer the story went on. I didn't want them to be rewarded with the happy ending they got. They didn't go through the trials and come out the other side better people.
I was so disappointed and sad. I didn't want anyone else to have to go through this ....

What would have made Bloodrose: A Nightshade Novel better?
A better handling of major plot points. A well thought out plot progress. Not relying on cop outs to tell the story. Strong characters make strong choices, and choices cost. Cremer didn't allow her characters to make choices in this novel. Everything happened TO them.
Has Bloodrose: A Nightshade Novel turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. Of course not. I am a UF/YA fanatic, I write it, I read it, it would take much more than a few poorly made choices to make me turn my back. I will probably not even stop reading Cremer, who I liked before this novel, but it will take me a while to trust again. Sigh. I've been hurt badly in this relationship - I gave my trust, my faith, my love...
;-)
What three words best describe Rebecca Lowman’s performance?
Decent. Competent. Uninspired.
What character would you cut from Bloodrose: A Nightshade Novel?
Shay - Shay SHAY. Ugh. Hated him from the beginning. But was willing to deal with him. This book turned him into a whiney twit with an overbearing overprotective misogynistic streak a mile wide. I'd have punched him in the face and bitten him on the butt if I'd been a character in Bloodrose.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
More action and less about the love triangle. There was a lot of repetition when it came to the main character
What was most disappointing about Andrea Cremer’s story?
It got very boring halfway through.
What didn’t you like about Rebecca Lowman’s performance?
It was a little annoying.
What character would you cut from Bloodrose: A Nightshade Novel?
Sabine probably.

I loved all three books . I don't know what everyone else's problems! Was but to each is own. I thought they were really good.
I struggle to finish this book it was almost like I knew what was going to happen before it happened.
Very disappointed about how this series ended. It does seemed rushed and some of the main characters that are expected to grow and become more than they were in book one, fall very short.
loved it heart felt how the series ended, but worth the read.
The struggle of the pack and the end of the story done very well.
Original storyline undermined by juvenile bickering; but overall most characters were really great. Fantastic Narrator!!
Would you be willing to try another book from Andrea Cremer? Why or why not?
I'm not sure at this point. Feelings can enhance a story but in this case there is too much of the same tedious inner conflict.
Was Bloodrose: A Nightshade Novel worth the listening time?
The storyline is greatly diminished by the monotonous inner turmoil of the main character that is really annoying. Do I love this one or that one and should I pick this one or that one, blah blah blah? She's an ALPHA WOLF who demonstrates too much weakness and fear and not enough strength of character or self control. This in itself is a huge contradiction. I have listened to all the books hoping this one would have less inner monologue but it seems to have more.
