Publisher's Summary

Young Twig lives in the Deepwoods, among the Woodtrolls, but he isn't one of them. In a brave attempt to find out where he belongs, Twig wanders into the mysterious, dangerous world beyond the Deepwoods. He meets a collection of odd companions, such as his wise guardian, the Caterbird; the Slaughterers, a peaceful race who butcher animals for their livelihood; and the vicious, bile-swilling Rotsucker. Always watching out for the horrible Gloamglozer, whose presence haunts the thoughts of all the inhabitants of The Edge, Twig steadfastly pursues his quest until he discovers his roots, not among the trees, but in the skies.

FABULOUS!!!

I don't care what anybody else says about this book! I LOVED IT! It was a fabulous story of a boy named Twig in big world trying to make friends and fit in. I don't think they have the three other books in the series on www.audible.com, but I would definately pick them up at your local library. They were all so great. I'm a very picky thirteen-year-old when it comes to books, but these honestly blew me away. GET THESE BOOKS....NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An intriguing adventure

My friend had loved this book as a child, so when i asked for a recommendation he immediately directed me towards the edge chronicles. I'm 23 so I'm well-above the intended age group for this story, nevertheless i was entertained. Twig is a character I can relate to. He's been thrust out into the world, rejected by his people and family, with nothing to his name except for his Naming Knife. I found Twig unbearable at times. He was whiny, always getting into trouble and near-useless at the best of times. But then I took a moment for reflection. Often times I myself can come across as nothing more than a whining mess, but it's only because life is hard and I'm struggling. Just like Twig. For poor Twig, it's just one thing after another and the moment he thinks he's safe or found a place he belongs, it's ripped out from under him. I find his downward spiral of never-ending bad luck relatable.

The writing had incredible flow and despite my initial disinterest I wanted to finish the story. The ending, while predictable, wasn't an entire disappointment. I enjoyed the story and its themes of facing the unknown and finding oneself. The narrator was incredible and kept me hooked with his enthusiastic reading. I enjoyed this book.

Enjoyed by all ages, incredibly imaginative

Any additional comments?

This has entertained my children 5, 7, 9, 11, several teens, my siblings in their 20's and me in my 30's. I read this (and the other books of this series) to myself. Reread it to one of my children and got it on audio so all my other children could enjoy it. I enjoy it completely every time. Very few stories are that good.
The creativity of this book is amazing. It's unlike any other story I can think of. There's not magic, it's just a totally different place where the laws of nature are different and the creatures are widely varied.
AMAZING!

This book is an amazing adventure filled with danger, diverse characters, and a landscape only found on The Edge. It's a great coming of age story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see how Twig fairs against the dark Deep Woods.

UNabridged is BEST! We love the story & narrator

These are awesome stories. The reader is great. The story (when read or listed to) takes a while to get into but it is both complex and fascinating. Enjoyed by my 4 kids (age 7-14) & me. The UNabridged stories in this series are best! We don't understand why they also have abridged versions, in those the stories flow but so many wonderful details are left out. It is worth buying or checking-out the paper copies also because the illustrations are out of this world. GREAT!
