Publisher's summary

For teens and young adults.

The poets of old spoke of Seers gifted with waking dreams, of Sentinels, who could take the form of the beasts of the air, and who watched over the sacred lands.

Then the age of gifts came to an end.

Over 100 years, Seers and Sentinels became as Legends, stories told to wide-eyed children at night.

Annalisia is secretly a seer. A princess with a courageous spirit. And a soft spot for Legends.

Jovanni is secretly a legend. A commoner with little patience for pampered royals.

On the eve of a royal ball, Anna longs for nothing more than to escape. Her duty, a marriage of alliance with a man she doesn't love. Even so, she's torn by her great love for her grandmother, the queen. And her deep loyalty to her people.

In an age of political turmoil, powerful forces are at work. Enemies. Spies. Threats to all Anna and Jovanni hold dear. Threats that could reveal their carefully guarded secrets.

For the time has come for Legends to awake.

Wonderful Fantasy!

I loved this book. It was a sweet romance with a bit of action and the mystery of who the enemy was. I even wondered who Anna would marry in the end, after all, there was Jovanni, her best friend, and the young man her grandmother arranged for her to marry; all three would have been good husbands and lovers if she had given them a chance.

I also enjoyed the fantasy aspect. Anna's visions and Jovanni's shape-shifting between man and hawk made for an interesting story. Their unique abilities helped them track their enemy down even as the enemy hunted for Anna. And the setting was beautiful, I'm sure, if only we could see the lovely land set on the coast.

I won't give anything away, but I especially liked the part when Jovanni, exhausted, accidentally changed form from a hawk to a man in midair. I can just imagine a fisherman turning at just the right moment to see a man suddenly appear, falling a few feet above the ground. It would have been hilarious to see the expression on the fisherman's face, except that poor Jovanni was hurt and exhausted.

Also, I am quite glad that Jovanni showed courage at the end. Don't get me wrong, he was very courageous in rescuing his sister and Anna, but where his relationships were concerned, I was so afraid he would give in to his fear. Sometimes it is much harder to tell the truth about yourself to someone who's opinion matters to you than to rescue the one you love from a terrible enemy. I admire him for that.

An Entertaining Fantasy!

Any additional comments?

4 Stars!
After reading and enjoying another one of this author's books last year I was very excited when I got the chance to review this book in audio format. The story was very smart, entertaining, suspenseful, romantic and just all around delightful! The narrator really brought the characters to life and helped to pull me even deeper into the story world! There were a few things that seemed a little complicated to me, thus there were some times when I found myself a little confused as to who all the characters were and what was happening but it wasn't too bad so I just went with it and got back on track pretty quickly. I really enjoyed the time I spent listening to this book, and I highly recommend it to any and all fans of good, clean, fantasy fiction! And I look forward to reading more of Lena Goldfinch's work in the future!

I received a complimentary audiobook copy from the author in exchange for my honest review, which I have done. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

Engaging Story!

Would you listen to Aire again? Why?

Yes! There was so much action, that I feel as though I might have missed something. I'd love to listen again and glean even more connections to the plot and characters.

What other book might you compare Aire to and why?

I was slightly reminded of The Princess Bride for the historical fantasy aspect.

What about Tara Millette’s performance did you like?

The voice really matched the story. I found her easy to listen to and felt she delivered the emotion needed to bring the story to life.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Engaging twists amidst a tender love story.

Any additional comments?

Aire by Lena Goldfinch was an absolute delight. Who doesn't enjoy a historical fantasy with intrigue, royalty, dashing heroes, and forbidden love? Goldfinch is sure to satisfy as she weaves a tale full of action that keeps you turning the pages.

Although the story contained the predictable love story, Goldfinch balanced out the expected with colorful characters and interesting plot twists. At times, however, these twists and action sequences seem to go on a bit long, but through the exchanges the characters are brought to life. One of Goldfinch's strengths is her ability to present strong, realistic characters that resonate with the reader. I came away from this book feeling as if I had truly met some wonderful new people, and hated to say goodbye.

I highly recommend Goldfinch's work. You will find Aire a delightful read that will leave you wanting to read more from this author!
