Publisher's Summary

 Another school shooting.

Another senseless act of violence.

But this one is different.

It isn’t random. It was orchestrated by a mysterious outsider.

And it’s just the beginning.

“This is Shea at his absolute best.”

The warning was released soon after the first school shooting. It came from an untraceable source, and threatened a similar violent incident at one school in each state across the country. Soon, the entire nation is plunged into a state of panic.

As law enforcement desperately searches for the group responsible, former FBI agent Nick Lawrence is called up by an old friend. They need Nick’s unique set of skills to find and stop a twisted criminal mastermind...before he claims his next victims.

Praise for Brian Shea:

"...quick-moving, exciting, and eventful." (Booklife Prize Critic’s Report

"Shea's background in law enforcement gives the well-researched book authenticity." (The Williamson County Sun

BRIAN SHEA has served as both a military officer and law enforcement Detective, and his authentic works of fiction have been enjoyed by thousands. Story Better - Editing horrible

I was a little bit worried about how this book would go as the previous one was a let down. I can say this had some really good twists and turns in it and has given me the desire to go and read the next one in the series. However, the editing was horrible in this book. There were several (I believe at least 5 instances) where the narrator started to read and then you heard what sounded like a finger snapping and the narrator started over again and reread the previous line differently. Odd. AND the gap between chapters was long. There were times I thought Audible had stopped and was about to hit the "start" button again only to find it was still running. This can be very distracting from the actual narrated story. Just didn't make sense why they allowed so much time to lapse between chapters.

love this author, good story, crappy editor

I've enjoyed all the books in this series so far, but the editor really let the author down with this one. Hope they give the author a refund! lots of duplicate phrases where the narrator stopped and restarted, long pauses between chapters. Will still buy the next one in the series, hoping it will be a better quality as the first books in the series were.

Desperately needs a “Beta” listener

I really hate leaving a review that’s less than 5 stars, but enough is enough — I’ve listened to all the books in this series and enjoyed the writing and the stories, even if they are too short— but it’s so obvious that nobody has ever done an editing pass on any of these books. The shocking mispronunciations of common words is stunning in their idiocy.

No spoiler alert here — the books are about an FBI agent. FBI is short for Federal Bureau of Investigation. The word “bureau” is a two syllable word with emphasis on the first syllable. Not as this narrator pronounces it with emphasis on the second syllable. It’s the most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard hundreds of times. And let’s be honest, how hard would it be for someone in the chain of production to just listen to the first few paragraphs and realize that this narrator is pronouncing Bureau incorrectly?

Comically, out of the five books in the aeries, there was one time (yes, only one time) that it was pronounced correctly— but that time was an accident because the character speaking had a thick southern accent and the narrator used the accent to change the pronunciation and it needed up being correct.

In the world of audiobooks, errors like this are the equivalent of having an author misspell the same word over and over and over and over throughout a book. Maddeningly frustrating and it definitely detracts from the enjoyment of the book.

Good story, wonky recording

The recording has several areas where it stops a sentence, clicks, then restarts. Editing is necessary.

Did the Editor Get Paid?

Overall not a bad story, but the editing is horrible. You can take about 20 minutes off the duration because of the repeated lines and the long gap between chapters. Narrator is not too bad, but his pronunciation of bureau is annoying. BuuuuRow!!!

Is this the rough draft recording?

I think someone forgot to make the final edits to the audio recording and uploaded the rough draft. The author reread some lines after the sound of a wooden clapper was heard haha. It was so weird. The story was good though. Nick's life takes an interesting turn. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Troubled

I had listened to the first three books, but was disappointed in the quality of the recording. Numerous silence gaps and repeat sections.

Audible please FIX.

I rarely had a problem listening (skips/repeats) prior to the last "upgrade" with the change of "free" audiobooks. Since then every single book has skipped or had repeats to some degree. This one is the WORST so far. I have read plenty of reviews that mention this, so what's up?
As far as the audiobook itself, it's a continuation of the Nick Lawrence series with the addition of characters. I like details so I wish the character development was better, but since this was short, I hope it will come as the series continues.
