fitting ending for a fantastic series

this has been a great series of books I listen to a lot of audiobooks and this has been one of my favorite series was a little luck vaughn heppner will write an expansion to this tail or another series in the same universe

The narrator was awesome. I have listened to whole series. It seems to me the author ran out of things to write and filled in a bunch of gaps to make the book longer. But..... I had to hear it as it ended the series. I was a little disappointed with the anti-climatic ending but otherwise worth the listen.

if this was the last installment in the series it was the perfect way to end. the narrator never gets old, his voice adds a depth and flavor that perfectly matches the character

weakest of the series

I really enjoyed the rest of the extinction war series, but this one just isn't as good. The plot is overly convulded and messy. Heppner' s need to always fit in his political opinions doesn't help either. That said Rummel once again does a great job of voicing Creed and the rest of the characters.

An ending that is stupid beyond measure...

This is science fiction. It's, however, light on the science. This is military science fiction that is light on "the military." This is a science based fantasy series that has some decent "fantasy." That stated, let's be honest. The author must have played Master of Orion 2, Battle at Antares because this novel, heck the whole series is based on it. What sets this story apart are the pseudo-religious elements. Satan? Demons? Devils? Abaddon, Jelk-gargoyles, ancients forerunner artifacts (touch of Halo), heck he has an A.I. stand-in for GOD in a "fortress of light." It's not suppose to be reality but it IS suppose to be authentic. Here's what I mean. The hero goes through some impossible situation and realizes he can't win, so what does he do? He makes a hard difficult choice, he leaves his girlfriend. He leaves his friend to die. He surrenders and takes the punishment. He doesn't "sprinkle fairy dust" and magically everything's better. No. That doesn't happen. Except at the end of this novel. Hocus Pocus, flim-flam, a mind machine, some tea and toast and Satan's girlfriend is back to being Sandra Dee. Oh, there's tears, there's hugs, there's total bovine scat. It had me right up until this junk. How should it have ended? Jennifer should have KILLED Creed, and the trauma/ecstasy of killing the man she love/hated (love not the opposite of hate, but rather indifference) returned her to sanity as a cathartic release; releasing Abaddon's mental hold on her while simultaneously breaking her heart. Now, something along those lines would have been a powerful ending. Creed had to sacrifice himself (the ultimate act of love) to save her. Instead what we got was something along the lines of "fake" love. She's was brain washed into forgiveness, re-programmed. That's not love. Who wants to love a doll or a robot with no free will? Not me. Oh, there'll be sequel, Creed & Jennifer sitting in a tree, another Abaddon clone and a prissy forerunner artifact to hunt down but do I care? Oh, I was entertained so I'll probably read it but I can suspend a lot of disbelief except with real human interactions because we know how those work, those don't need ex-deus warp drive.

Pretty good

While not my favorite series, it has been a solid series overall. This book was slow to start but, overall, pretty good. Christian Rummel is in my Top 5 narrators and does an outstanding job with it. If you liked the other books in the series, you will like this one.
