The Tao Te Ching is a Chinese classic text written around 400 BC and traditionally credited to the sage Laozi, though the text's authorship, date of composition and date of compilation are debated. The oldest excavated portion dates back to the late 4th century BC, but modern scholarship dates other parts of the text as having been written—or at least compiled—later than the earliest portions of the Zhuangzi.

The Tao Te Ching, along with the Zhuangzi, is a fundamental text for both philosophical and religious Taoism. It also strongly influenced other schools of Chinese philosophy and religion, including Legalism, Confucianism, and Chinese Buddhism, which was largely interpreted through the use of Taoist words and concepts when it was originally introduced to China. Many artists, including poets, painters, calligraphers, and gardeners, have used the Tao Te Ching as a source of inspiration. Its influence has spread widely within the globe's artistic and academic spheres. It is one of the most translated texts in world literature.

Regret buying. The author’s first attempt at trying to write a book he obviously doesn’t know enough to give his personal opinion on a subject. The beginning of the book starts off with criticism of other authors translations that sets the stage for the opposite direction of the subject. By the middle of the book he finally gives up on others interpretation and goes with his own interpretation which he considers the best one

The content of book is excellent and the English translation quite understandable. This is a valuable read that I have listened to several times.

Listening to the Tao Te Ching is like taking a deep breath for the soul. Even though it was written centuries ago, its wisdom feels so relevant today. The ideas about balance, simplicity, and living in harmony with nature really stuck with me. It’s a peaceful, reflective read, and I can see why it’s been so influential. Definitely worth picking up if you’re looking for some calming inspiration!

A Timeless Classic

It was very hard to listen to this as the narrator would pause unnecessarily long. I had to speed it up all the way because the gaps were that annoying, but it made it difficult to focus on the words. Add to the narrator being soft-spoken, I wish it was read by someone else.

Unnecessary Pausing

Trying to make a poem out of the Tao te Ching. Too too many thus thou. Just get to the point make it simple trying to make stories doesn’t make any sense.

It’s terrible
