Publisher's Summary

Meet Mr. Ash, soft-spoken, tall, unfailingly kind - sole survivor of an ancient species, the Taltos - thriving among humankind as he has always done, head of a great corporate empire. As the novel opens, he is stunned to learn from an old and mysterious friend that another Taltos has been seen, in the very same Scottish glen where centuries ago, Ash ruled his clan long before the coming of the Romans. At once he is propelled into the world of Rowan Mayfair, into the mysteries of the Mayfair family, the New Orleans dynasty of witches forever besieged by ghosts, spirits, and the dizzying powers of his own species - a family intimately involved with the heritage of the Taltos, a family of unique, brilliant, and troubled souls struggling as they have for centuries to use both science and magic in their battle for greatness, even survival.

In a swirling universe filled with death and life, corruption and innocence, this story takes us on a wondrous journey back through the centuries to a civilization half human, half of wholly mysterious origin, at odds with mortality and immortality, justice and guilt.

Taltos is Volume 3 of The Mayfair Witches series.

Tells the basics of the story

I wish that I would have remembered that the book was abridged. It was a good refresher of the story, but would not worth it if I didn't know the story.

Not a Stand Alone

I love the reader, but this is not a stand alone novel. Either the whole novel or the editing job for the abridge left me feeling like I was missing a great deal of what was going on, and prevented me from caring about the characters at all.

Love Tim Curry...but who is the other guy?

There is a second narrator I wasn't expecting and the transition back and forth is a little jolting. I read Taltos in the past so I purchased this primarily because Tim Curry was narrating. I wish it was unabridged...I have the advantage of already knowing the story and still had a hard time following the abridged version. I don't know if it would make sense at all to someone unfamiliar with the story.

Even Better Again Today!

I read this 15 years ago in hard copy, and found so much I hadn't heard then listening to this today. thank you so much Anne fit your intense detail fort description & historical references. I suggested to my middle daughter, (22 yrs.), to listen with me while we were on a short road trip, & I think I succeeded in getting her hooked❣
We're traveling again to New Orleans this summer, & look so forward to visiting a book store in the garden district again, & this time I'm prepared to happily come home with several of muy favorite 1st edition titles signed by Anne.

Terrible as an Abridged version

Any additional comments?

This whole story line is not good for abridged version. You miss too much of what makes this trilogy so wonderful and horrifying. You miss the soul of story line. Audible, get the unabridged version up.

Finally done !

What did you love best about Taltos?

Started this series several years ago... Recently picked up Lasher and finished it. Wanted to find out what happens in the end and switched to audio because I just knew I wouldn't have the time to sit and read. Good story
