Publisher's Summary

Night shift clerk and high-functioning insomniac Jack is back to work, trying his best to keep out of trouble. But when his chain-smoking coworker discovers a mysterious radio signal revealing the guarded secrets of their town, Jack will learn that an annoying new day shift manager is far from the worst of his problems.

In this second installment of the Gas Station saga, Jack finds himself entangled in his most harrowing adventure yet. With the newest crew of coworkers along for the ride and the resident psychopath out for his blood, our hero must navigate the drama of small-town murder conspiracies, vigilante justice, and demonic summoning rituals...whether he wants to or not.

can't get enough of gas station Jack

I always look forward to these stories. I'm ready for Vol. 3 thru 50. These stories are a perfect mix of horror, humor, and quirky to hold your attention from beginning to end.

Meh

I read the first volume in this series, and was unsure about it. Like the first volume, this one has some compelling features -- a convincing anti-hero for the main character, plenty of odd events, and a genuinely new take on the whole Lovecraftian, weird-science culture. In the end, though, it's the character of Jack that makes the whole thing even remotely compelling -- the other characters are ciphers and, in fact, might not even exist. In fact, the entire story might be the product of Jack's disturbed mind.

The narrator, telling the story from Jack's first-person point of view does a splendid job of capturing this ambiguity, here as in the first book.

In the end, though, it's all just too silly for me. Once you get to the point where the action might all be a delusion, pretty much anything goes. The characters don't behave in ways which match the events that take place and, in many cases, aren't even remotely convincing as human beings. This may be intentional, for all I know, but I find it impossible to take the story seriously, when there's no telling whether one event stands any chance of leading logically to the next. I found myself simply not caring what happened next and, once that happens, there's no point finishing the book. So I didn't.

This is a shame, because it seems that all the elements of a great story are there. They are just used in unconvincing ways.

Utterly scrumptious

Since this is volume two if you haven't already done so I'd recommend volume one but all I will say is if you want a fantastical and suspenseful Sci fi story that isn't just entertaining but actual a decent read, this is a story you will enjoy.

From the odd little snippits of side lore to the very enjoyable diction of Sir pastas view on the characters personalities this was worth every penny and its left me wanting more, so from one avid fan to hopefully a future fan, don't miss out on this gem.

Hoping to get volume 3 as soon as its out and can't wait, peace ✌️
