Publisher's Summary
An army of monsters walks among us, hidden in plain sight. They're fast. They're strong. They're unrelenting. And they only want one thing: The shitty gas station at the edge of town.
Coming as a surprise to absolutely no one, Jack - night-shift clerk and local crazy person - has found himself neck-deep in the middle of yet another world-ending terror. And this time around, nobody can be trusted.
Not that tough-as-nails cop who probably knows a lot more than she's letting on. Not the adorkable new employee who might be something far less innocent than she appears. Not even Jack's best friend/emotional support human, whose mysterious past seems to have finally caught up with him.
In this latest installment of the Gas Station saga, Jack's world will change forever. Questions will be answered, and answers will be questioned. Friends become enemies. Strangers become enemies. Frenemies become enemies. (You know what? Jack is going to have a lot of new enemies.)
Prepare yourself. Things are about to get weird.

Underwhelming, directionless, and a lazy ending
I was a big fan of the first book despite its lack of an overall story arc, found the second to be the same but with some good moments, while volume 3 was entertaining at parts but just loses focus in its overall story, and just lets the weirdness become too weird for what I feel like is the sake of contrived writing.
There are definitely some really creative moments in here, gruelling fights with disgusting and terrifying monsters, great and funny character moments and battles with paranoia, but again there's a lack of direction, especially towards the end, and it just makes for a confusing read/listen, especially when the ending just feels lazy after a promising beginning and just makes you feel like you've wasted your time following the story.
I really do enjoy the characters and some of the writing and wanted to enjoy this book so much more, but it just seemed to drag with not a lot of breathing room either and personally lacks the mystery of the first two for me.
Not necessarily a bad listen/read if you enjoyed the first book, but I personally would recommend something else with a better overall narrative!

A Perfect Sequel
Three books in, and there is only really one stark truth to the series from a reading point of view
The plot can do whatever is wants, you'll love it anyway
If you've reached Volume 3, then you already know what you are in for. A TFTGS book is like a bout of controlled madness, its doesn't always make sense, but it works. This may also be the best instalment so far, mostly due to its almost desperate plot. It pushes forward at a relenting pace, with barely any downtime. It somehow also contrasts bone crushing misery, with an all encompassing hope that few writers truly achieve.
An exceptional read/listen. God knows how the series will eventually end, but for now it's firing on all cylinders.

Absorbing and wonderfully odd. I'm hooked.
I've been following these for a few years, now, and they're my go-to audiobook. Every instalment is entertaining and satisfying - and leaves me mildly annoyed that the next isn't available yet.
The characters are engaging, the plots are just insane enough, and I love the way the weirdness that would be the horror in most stories is treated as mildly inconvenient.
The narrator, Mr Creepypasta, isn't the most polished performer (I suspect a talented amateur rather than a trained actor) but that adds to the realism. The only time it's grated was in book 2, when 'conspicuous' was pronounced to rhyme with 'suspicious'; it's mostly endearing.
