Story
Is this life imitating art or art imitating life? The only thing he’s sure of is that the situation he finds himself in is a copy of a scene he filmed earlier, only this time, there is no director yelling “cut” and no crew to rescue him. Terrified for his life, Kendall takes comfort remembering happier times with his longtime lover, Johnny. He hasn’t seen Johnny in weeks since Johnny stayed behind to finish his latest best-selling novel.

Brighton McKenzie inherited one of the last pieces of farmland in suburban Baltimore. It has been in his family since Maryland was a colony, though it has been fallow for years. Selling it for development would be easy, but Brighton wants to honor his grandfather's wishes and work it again. Unfortunately, an accident left him relying on a cane, so he'll need help. Tanner Houghton used to work on a ranch in Montana until a vengeful ex got him fired because of his sexuality. He comes to Maryland at the invitation of his cousin and is thrilled to have a chance to get back to the kind of work he loves.

Publisher's Summary
On the day he and Roman Capanelli were to be married, Malik Stevens wakes up in a small room with very little light. Time must be passing, because a door opens from time to time and food is left for him-that's his only connection to the outside world. Roman is a choreographer on Broadway, and he's waiting for Malik at the park with all their friends, ready to start their marriage ceremony. When Malik doesn't show up, Roman is nearly heartbroken thinking he's been left at the altar. But soon he understands that Malik hasn't stood him up, he's been taken.
Desperate and determined, Roman begins searching for clues to aid the police. Then, when Malik escapes, the couple continues the search until they ferret out the culprit, and in the process open up a box of secrets. An orphan who grew up in a foster home, Malik knows his father was a serial killer and his mother died of grief and shame after his father was convicted. Now it seems some of his parents' skeletons still hang in the family closet. But was Malik's kidnapping meant to uncover those secrets or to hide them forever?

The narration was AWFUL!
Love this author. Loved the story. Absolutely HATED this narrator! He sounded like an old man reading to a child. I guess the story was about two guys in their twenties, yet at times I felt they were both older men. It was extremely distracting and I wanted to turn him off, shut him up, wring his neck. He made Malik come across as a 2 year old. Such a shame as the story was really good.

The Narration was not my favorite
The story caught my interest but I had difficulty listening. The narration was not to my liking. It kind of spoiled the listen.
