Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Cindy Gerard's red-hot new romantic suspense series features the irresistible men of Black Ops, Inc., a special team of heroes with a taste for living on the edge....

A dangerous attraction....

Abbie Hughes no longer trusts men, but despite her cool indifference, her long legs and showgirl face still draw plenty of attention. Between working as a blackjack dealer, going to school, and keeping an eye on her younger brother, Cory, there's no time for romantic adventures - until the night a sexy, mysterious stranger places a wager at her table.

Spurred by revenge....

Sam Lang left Black Ops, Inc. when tragedy struck his family. Although he's determined to retire his M-16 rifle to lead a quiet life on his ranch, a vengeful quest will send him on a manhunt for the ruthless multimillionaire who murdered his sister.

...Reveals a savage threat they can't ignore.

Though Sam suspects Abbie is in on a lucrative gem-smuggling deal her brother made with the enemy, their attraction is undeniable. Now Cory is missing, and together they search the wild Honduras backcountry to find him. With danger on their trail, they must trust each other completely or face certain death alone.

Good

This was book 2 in the "Black ops" This was a pretty good audiobook Sam Lang left Black Ops when his sister was killed in a bomb he is leading a quiet life on his ranch with his father. When they get a lead on the man that killed his sister he goes back for revenge. Abbie Hughes doesn't have time for men with working as a blackjack dealer in Las Vegas going to school and keeping an eye on her little brother. Cory has been buying Honduran knick-knacks and shipping them to Abbie to store for him. He plans to start a business selling them he got roped in to carrying drugs for Nader. Cory wants to quit but Nader won't let him. Cory's friend Derek stole a necklace from Nader "who stole it from a museum" Derek manages to give it to Cory before he dies. Cory goes into hiding, knowing Nader will kill him. Sam starts dating Abbie for the purpose of getting information. They sleep together. When she discovers the truth she is hurt and hates him. When she receives an email showing Nader torturing Cory he tells her to bring him the necklace and he will let Cory go. Sam and Abbie go to Honduras with the Black Ops group. This was a good book with a lot of action and suspense Abbie and Sam had a lot of hot chemistry and feelings for one another. I loved the narrator of this series. I am looking forward to listening to the next book in this series.

Another Great Story

I really love Cindy Gerard's writing. The books in this series are off to a great start. I like that the characters from the other books are included in each series. Lots of Action & suspense. Great job!

I may have to reevaluate my previous stance

I don't know what it is about these characters that makes them so compelling! I only rated the first book in the series 3 stars because I felt like the reader had been thrown in the midst of a story that had already started without any real purchase. Not so with the second in the series and it almost has me reevaluating my star rating of that first book with how "at home" I feel with these characters - a sign of some excellent setup for a a series. I'm eager to see more characters fleshed out in future books.

Liked the storyline

While I liked the storyline, it gets somewhat confusing. The series is intertwined with the Bodyguard series which I read first. Making these two series into one continuing series instead of parallel would be less confusing.

Emotional

Wow, talk about emotional roller coaster. I do love Abby. She’s a strong woman. I feel for her little brother Cory. That poor boy needs a break. Even typing this makes me want to cry for him. And I had a sneaking suspicion about the lake shampoo scene.

Interesting novel

Story has intrigue but outcome is very predictable. More character development would increase the story appeal.
