Publisher's summary

Everything they know is gone. The old world obliterated in less than 48 hours. They soon discover they aren't alone, and other dangers besides the undead lurk in the forests. The new law of the land: kill or be killed.

Dr. Everett Berning and his team seek refuge in the underground lab in the Ozark Mountains. The first week after the collapse of civilization, those who made it out alive struggle against the odds to survive.

Only a handful escaped the devastation in their hometown of Malvern, Arkansas, and they grapple with the new reality. Tired, frightened, and mourning the loss of loved ones, they attempt to regroup and cope with the life-altering changes.

When one suffers a debilitating injury, they are thrust into a tenuous relationship with Dr. Berning's group. Other survivors battle the odds as they flee treacherous cities destroyed by the government and crawling with reanimated corpses.

Unfortunately, they all are about to discover the roaming dead aren't the only threat they face. As the world plummets into darkness, things will never be the same. Ever.

Can't believe how fast I've gone through this book

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily
left this review.

So, now I'm getting a bit depressed... Now that I've finished book 3, there is only one book left in the series... It has been a long time since I've enjoyed a zombie apocalypse series as much as I have this one. The narration is so good and the author really does a masterful job of building and maintaining tension. I love that the series has actual plot beyond just the main characters fighting and surviving. I will likely finish book 4 later today. I just wish they were longer and that more books were in the series so I could continue following these characters.

A great third book

This was a really good book, though I have to admit that it did not have my attention like the previous two books in the series. That may be because I was still grieving the loss of Regina in the previous book, and she was my favorite character. In general, all the characters in this book/series are really well-developed, and it is easy to get attached to them and care about them. These are very fast-paced books that are filled with suspense. Even for a person that doesn't normally read zombie books, these are really enjoyable and enthralling. I listened to the Audible audio version narrated by Rebecca Roberts, and I really enjoyed it. In fact, she may be my new favorite female narrator. She does great voices and great pacing. Overall, a great book.

The future is not looking bright

As things go, humanity isn't look so good. It looks like we are on the way out. Here we are in book three, and things continue to go downhill for our survivors. Funny thing is, this book is where most other zombie genre styled books would have began. To be honest, I could have satdown with this right here and been just fine jumping into the story. I am not saying that the first two books aren't relevent or don't matter, just that this is powerful enough and good enough that you could start right here and be happy.

The book has a Game of Thrones vibe going for its characters, by that I mean some die, new ones are introduced, and others just go by the wayside waiting to come back later. The good thing is that for the ones we have followed from the beginning we do see growth and development. So, the characters are not stagnant.

There are zombies, oh yes, and it seems we are getting some obligatory military people here too. The fighting, as always is intense and bloody, and one might make the supposition that the dead have no mercy, but he humans completely lack it when they kill. I enjoy books like these because I always expect to examine the author's take on how people will change as society slips away. How long do we hold onto our humanity before succumbing to our baser instincts? How are we when fighting and enemy that is us, and that we realize that we will one day join? Fonatainne gives some pretty good answers to those questions.

Roberts is vocally mesmerizing, and you have to wonder how so beautiful and soothing a voice can detail such deaths! She really manages to bring each character to life, even the dead ones! AS I said before, her vocal range is impressive, and her ability to do male voices is surprisingly powerful and believable. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

This!!!!

The third book in a phenomenal series, Tainted future is the best one yet! If you love zombies, violent death, and sweet romance with a side of "oh my gosh!" , you should really read this series. New characters are introduced, flesh-eating corpses roam the land, and people start to realise just how screwed they really are. Just when you think it can't possibly get any worse, it does. Brilliant narration and storytelling really bring the apocalypse right to your doorstep. I received this book free from the author in exchange for honest review.

Third times the charm!

If you could sum up Tainted Future in three words, what would they be?

better than before

Would you be willing to try another book from Ashley Fontainne? Why or why not?

I must! The cliffhanger ending finally has me clinched!

Have you listened to any of Rebecca Roberts’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Rebecca's voice talents never disappoint. Male or female, young or old character, and now even using an ethnic character... no matter how many characters she depicts, her distinct character voices help to carry the story well, even when the story is lacking.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

As a third book to a series that I wasn't entirely sold on, the way that the characters were now combined into a recognizable group of people who I cared about and hoped for their happy ending made the entire story much more satisfying... although, I wasn't expecting a cliffhanger, as I didn't realize that there would be a 4th book.

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to the 4th. I'll be sad if we lose any more of the characters. Seems inevitable in a zombie story.

very entertaining

they just keep getting better and better, I can't wait to find out how this story ends. I'm not a fan of zombies, but it's enjoyable. I feel very invested in the characters but I don't know who is going to live and who will die, it makes me sad when a favorite doesn't make it. I have a feeling I'm going to like this stories conclusion, and how it all comes together.
another job well done with the narration. there is a lot of characters and she still manages to have a different voice for each one.

Will there be a future or are they all undead

Any additional comments?

This part of the story picks up where book two left off, the series is not done yet there will be a book four. I feel you should read/listen to the whole series to really get the full impact, however I think you can read each book pretty much as a standalone and not feel lost at least not too much. This one starts off with them in the mountains and finding dead bodies with men they feel are military. They are in need of more food and most make a trip to bring some back. There are more deaths and some of the questions you have will be answered. They really find out more than they wanted to and find there is more than undead to fear.

Rebecca Roberts narration is wonderful I really like this narrator from her wonderful many different voices to the emotion she puts into her stories. Her male voices are just as great as her female ones. She has a smooth sexy voice you could listen to all day. Her male characters are rough, tough and strong. I am so amazed that she can do so many voices so wonderfully. Her tones never leave you guessing to the emotion each person is feeling. You can hear the fear, how scared they are from her voice. I heard no background noises or any place where the audio is louder than other places. There are no repeats of words just a clear clean audio that sounds wonderful that will leave you hanging on every word. If you haven’t listened to anything by this narrator I recommend you do she is very talented. Her voice is very powerful and emotions run deep. I am sure you will love her as much as I do.

I enjoyed this installment very much, people get hurt, they learn more about each other sticking together, fighting between their selves as well as others they come across. There are a few twists that will surprise you as well as a little humor. Some love ones are lost and knew friends are gained as well as more to fear. Traps are set and others trap their selves. I thought this would be the last book but it isn’t. As for me the undead are getting a little old. Don’t get me wrong it is a great series just running out of interesting things to hold your attention. I am looking forward to the next book I still have unanswered questions. I feel this series has been well worth my time, it is interesting and does pull you in with your heart beating double time at each new obstacle they come across. I held my breath a time or two, even talked and yelled at a few characters. There were characters I really like and some not so much. It was interesting to see who and what they military men were and what role they play. Maybe the Doc they found will find the curer before they all end up dead or undead.

The scene where the men were trying to retrieve supplies and discovered the dogs.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen in one sitting

Any additional comments?

This book was provided free of charge in exchange for a review.

This book continues the saga of a band of survivors who are being attacked from all sides. It also shows their compassion and grief as members of their team of friends are lost. It does a good job of their struggles with their own demons as they try to stay alive.

There is a lot of action and you can't predict how things are going to work out.

The author does a good job of merging the various character story lines as they work out their problems.

The narrator does a fantastic job of narration. The characters are easily separated by the multiple voices and the diction are good.
