THE LAST RESORT

Mike Collier had a special knack for creative and innovative ideas when it came to advertising. In that regard he stood out from the rest of the staff in the firm on the fifth floor, with a view overlooking Atlanta in the distance. But there were glitches in his performance, more than his boss Joanna wanted to see.

And she had talked to him about the problem at various times, and always made it clear that she appreciated his creativity. Mike wanted very much to keep his job there.

For one thing, he would dearly miss the almost daily encounters with the CEO of the company down the hall, a lovely woman by the name of Molly. Not only were the two companies on the same floor of the building, they shared a large storage room located between the two office suites. And Mike was able to frequently relish the sight of Molly.

It was not as if he would ever dream of asking her out. He was not even in management, but she was the CEO of a company. But regardless, he loved to find himself walking behind her through the hallway. He thought that she had the most beautifully crafted derriere, along with the most exquisite and shapely legs.

If she was wearing snug slacks, he was elated. If she were wearing a short skirt or dress, it made his day. But if she was wearing a short dress or skirt that happened to also be snug, he felt as if he had hit the jackpot when encountering her, especially when a view from behind was possible.

Molly Forrester had brought her human resources and personnel consulting firm to the same floor of the building three years earlier. Joanna and Molly met for lunch, and Molly could see immediately that Joanna was stressed. Joanna responded with a laugh: “Oh, it’s that Mike Collier again. It’s the same old thing. Of the entire creative staff, the guy comes up with the most stunning and entertaining ideas. But time after time, he has to be reminded to fill out a summary sheet before it can be sent on to production. We go through that constantly.

“He seems to really have his finger on the pulse of what will appeal to our clients and the general public. But it seems like we’re always having to put on the brakes because of something he forgot to do.”

Molly shook her head: “Have you reprimanded him?”

“Yes I have, but it’s so hard to do because he is the nicest, sweetest man you could imagine. He just lacks self-discipline.”

“ I think I need to find someone to give him a paddling.”

Both took a sip of their coffees, and then Molly reached over and placed her hand on Joanna’s. “ I could do that.”
