Publisher's summary

Adventure. It's what my boring life is missing, so when I fall through a portal into another world, I'm excited. Here, I'm important. Here, I'm special.

I find out just how special when I meet Death. He's been exiled to the mortal realm to work through his flaws, and he's just as spoiled and awful as you'd think. Rhagos, the Shadow Lord, is arrogant and rude and controlling and demands to get his way. He's selfish. He's impossible.

He's also utterly gorgeous. Magnetic. Lonely. And strangely protective of me.

Thanks to a magic bond, I now serve him as his anchor to the mortal realm. It means that I'm his conscience, his guide...and the target for any assassin or glory-seeker. After a few days of this, I'd rather go home than continue on this adventure.

As the world falls down around us and we're hunted simply for existing, I find myself wondering what it'd be like to serve the lonely god of death...in all ways. To kiss him. To touch him. To bed him.

Except...I'm supposed to be finding a way home, not trying to kiss Rhagos. No matter how tempting he is. No matter how much he stares at my lips. No matter how much I want it.

Contains mature themes.

Love this series - Worth the credits!

This series is Dixon’s best!
Real personalities with real reactions. Complex story with many plot points. Realistic emotional/relationship development. Overall, believable characters that make the story so much more enjoyable than most books out there.
I’m excited for the next books in this series!
Great narration, too.

Dixon at her best

First, ignore the cover. I promise you the story is worth it. Dixon has a thing for these covers, and honestly, I blew her work off because of them for so long. Now, I've binged all her work and this series is the best of her work.

I expected to have a similar adventure story as in book 1 - going out and killing the other aspects, waging war, etc... But nope. Dixon is pretty creative, and we have a completely different story here. In some ways, it was a lot tamer - less battle, etc... but I think the connection between Rhagos and Max was so well done. They are different people and therefore their adventure would reflect that.

I loved Rhagos - maybe a smidge more than Aron. Regardless, this was a 5 star book and I cannot wait for the next one.

Second adventure is even better than the first!

Basically Kylo Ren is the lonely god of death. He realizes that he could have a lovely anchor to spend eternity with just like the god of war now does. He bargains to get another chance at the ascendence but things don’t go quite the way he expected - he falls in love while doing nothing but deceive the object of his affections. And breaking all kinds of rules along the way.

I actually wanted to reread the first 8 hours after we find out “which” Death Kylo is.

There is an epic adventure with lots of misdirection and flirting and misunderstandings and new things learned etc.

I loved this book more than #1 because it was heads and tales more romantic (there’s great sex and smut but I felt way more emotion from Kylo than from Aaron). Ruby did a great job showing his feelings in small ways throughout this epic tale!

Best of all... Kylo finally gets what he deserves..

HIS HEA!!!!

Look past the cover, it’s an amazing story!

Just like Bound to the Battle God, this has everything-well developed characters, a thought out story (not super predictable like you’d expect), nothing is rushed yet I didn’t get bored at any point. I truly love this storyline and can’t wait for the next book.

LOVED the first book - but the second one is a let down!

Completely blown away by the first book of this series and couldn’t put it down, but this second one fell so flat for me! They set up Max to be this virgin gamer girl, so you’d think she’d be at least clever & intellectually stimulating - but she ends up being insecure, indecisive, and completely clueless. Rhagos is as boring as he is passive, which isn’t hot. Normally I love the tension of Ruby Dixon books - but this one ain’t it.

I am TRYING to like Max. Plus huge plot holes

Whether or not, Max is unexperienced sexually does not explain her cluelessness. Whether or not pertinent info is not forthcoming regarding this new world she was dropped into also does not justify how daft she acts. And her “emotions” are all over the place yet also extremely shallow at the same time. Flitting from one to the other. “I’m determined” to “screw it” in a blink. Did I mention I do not like this character??. It’s harsh, I know. The writing itself is confusing too. The aspect traits absorption timeline is NOT consistent with that of the one established in book one. Weeks into the storyline, we are still trying to guess if rhagos is Lies or Apathy or both? But mostly I dislike Mac’s continuous internal chatter that somehow amazingly contains zero self reflection or epiphanies of any kind. If Max was any more obtuse she’d be a log. I have hit the audible 30 second fast-forward multiple times just to avoid listening to more of her pointless internal chatter. I’m still reading(listening) because I still have hope that the story becomes cohesive and makes sense. Plus I don’t have anything better to listen to at the moment.

More aspect and anchor stories please!

I can’t get enough of Ruby Dixon’s books! The aspect and anchor series especially is amazing - I really feel like it’s a great fantasy setting and the intricacies of the world is awesome! I am especially thrilled that these books are so long! I hate short stories, really anything under six hours feels like a waste of a credit so I love longer books that really let you sink into the worlds they hold. This one kept me guessing till the end and I loved it! Can’t wait for the next one!

so so, but bound to the battle god is super

The main story is good, but the main character max is sooo winey, i was gonna stop in half the book, but because i paid for it i continued to the end. i would not purchase it if you think its like the first book - Bound to the battle god. i have listened to it over over again and it is awesome!! always makes me laugh no Matter how many times i listen to it!

Romances this long shouldn’t be this good

Probably just as good as the first, and different enough to be interesting. The MCs are likeable, the story has twists to keep you on your toes, and the steam is pretty hot once they get into it.

I really loved the narrator of the first audiobook, so it’s hard to give this one’s a better rating than 3 stars. I can’t help comparing how much more emotion (funny and dramatic) the other narrator put in.

Long and boring

I usually like Ruby Dixon’s books but this story is boring. The main character is just keep repeating herself. The story is just brag so slow. For the first 20 chapters you can skip and you will still know what’s going on.

Deaths not such a bad guy.

No need to be scared to death when we depart this life we are going to meet a loved up happy God of death and his human wife Max.
Another heartfelt Epic story from Ruby Dixon I love these tales of the gods they are so imaginative and descriptive, you feel like you really get to know the characters because the longer length of the book allows for a slower reveal and a slow burn romantically. Really felt deaths loneliness and desperation and shed a tear towards the end of the book and that doesn't happen very often.
Just a request The Spieday are fascinating please can they have their own book....pretty please .

Not as enjoyable as all other Ruby Dixon books

The story itself was fine, although slow to warm up. My main problem was with the female character Max, she is so whiney and annoying i wanted to smack her. Most of the time she sounded like a pathetically whingey naive teenager.. Not a very likeable. I think I'll give the Gods series a miss if more are written. If i remember thinking much the of the first book... Very slow to get going, not like those super sexy messakah guys.

***I never want it to end***

I loved this book it's a lil less aggressive and demanding than book 1 but it has its own appeal. Max and Rhagos are perfect together she grounds him and makes him more humane if that's the right word for it. Jillian Macie thank you for your excellent narrative. You give life to each characters uniquely and you made them UNFORGETABLE thank you.
