Can’t say enough good things

Avid reader & audiobook consumer here, and I don’t often write reviews. But… it’s worth mentioning that the author’s creativity, plot flow, and pacing are all simply exceptional. The melodic narration was a joy to listen to, and the author-narrator pairing is nothing short of magical. Off to seek out more of the same…

I love all of Craig Schaefer 's work and this is just as good. Great combo of detective work, magic, evil, good, touch of romance, twisted brotherhood, true friendship, unpredictable plot, and real sets of situations and supernatural activities and curses. Starting on book 2 right away.
The narration was excellent!

Another good one for Schaefer’s universe

Overall I really enjoyed this book, it follows some new characters as well as some old ones in an ultimately enjoyable experience, the only real issue I had with this book was that most of the book feels like a prologue for the next two and not a complete book on its own. All of his books like to leave you hanging with the next threads of the story, but that usually comes with a satisfying conclusion to the current book and for me this ones conclusion wasn’t quite that satisfying.

As for the narrator she was very good with all the new characters, the problem was with the old ones, unfortunately it just didn’t feel like the real Faust and Temple and Black because I was so used to the narrators of their books and she didn’t really lend anything to make them feel like they do in the other series. It kinda killed my excitement of seeing them in this story for me. If that doesn’t bother you the way it did me though then you shouldn’t have any trouble with the narration.

this is a great side story in the Daniel Faust universe, the importance of which is as yet unknown, but so very interesting and intense!
the new narrator is fantastic and really brings the story of Marie and Nessa to life!
as much as i’m always practically itching to get back to Dan and the others (Caitlin!), i’m already quite invested in what’s going to happen to these two cursed lovers!
let the magic and mayhem continue!

Yes. Many times. The Faust/Black series is some of my go to background listening material, and this builds on all of that.

Yes, she did a great job with the Revanche cycle books and this is a continuation of that

The Revanche Cycle was some of the best material Schaefer has ever written. Naturally it sold like dog droppings. I'm glad that he worked up the nerve to go outside his comfort zone again.

Not My Cup Of Tea

Flat and uninteresting.

I've read all the Daniel Faust novels except for the newest one and I love them! So I was very excited to see that this authored released a side trilogy for the series. Oh boy, was that excitement misguided. I found the characters one dimensional and unrelatable. The timing of the plot also just dragged and dragged with but being obvious where the story was going but taking forever to get there. It seems to nominally have something to do with Daniel Faust, but not that much even though it's in the same world and timeline. The only positive thing I have to say is that the narrator did a phenomenal job, that's the only thing that salvaged part of this audio book for me.

Too much wandering, but a decent ending.

This book had too much wandering around but had a good, if slightly confused ending.

I love all of the Daniel Faust books by Craig Schaefer, but despite the fact that he's in this it just doesn't make the grade. I found the book was written from too many unnecessary points of view. Not only was there the two main characters, but Faust, Melody Black, at least 2 'bad guys' pov and a handful of others including the police and the person telling the story. While I did like the two main characters of Nessa and Marie as well as the pairing, I found the '50 Shades of Grey' thing they had going on a bit weird.

I kept listening to this story simply because of my love of the Daniel Faust books, and his inclusion made this pretty awesome for me, but I don't think I'll be running to get the next installment. I'll probably pick it up eventually out of curiosity, but I spent too much time with this book wondering if I should put it down to give it more than general interest.

Multiple plots confusing

The main story was interesting but sadly, this book jumped around between three different stories which was disjointed and confusing. There were a great many scenes with violence and torture. I enjoyed the first book I listened to by this author, but not this one.
