Swords of the Six by Scott Appleton is an amazing dragon fantasy. Dave Cruse did an incredible job with the narration. The story is entertaining, interesting, enjoyable, action, and more. Swords of the Six is the first book in The Sword of the Dragon series. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. Highly recommend

Immersive Story

Swords of the Six offers a rich and immersive reading experience, blending a strong narrative voice with detailed world-building. The writing style is compelling, balancing description with fluid pacing that keeps the story engaging from start to finish.

The audiobook narration really elevates the experience as well. The narrator gives each character a distinct voice, bringing their personalities to life and making it easy to tell them apart. He also keeps the balance between all the characters consistent, so none feel overshadowed.

Each character is introduced fully at different points in the story, which is a major plus because it allows them to shine individually, develop their own arcs, and establish distinct personalities before the ensemble comes together. The characters are very well-developed, each with unique and emotionally rich traits.

The story begins by exploring the characters’ lives prior to the main plot, effectively setting the stage for the events to come and giving the reader a sense of context and investment. While a few minor contradictions occur in the narrative, they do not significantly disrupt the flow or enjoyment of the story.

The characters are largely likable and relatable, with the exception of the oldest sister, who I personally didn’t connect with as much, though that’s just my take. The romantic dynamic between the main characters is sweet and well-developed, offering a satisfying balance to the broader plot.

The author’s approach to the female protagonist is especially noteworthy. She is written with a sense of competence, agency, and individuality that stands out, avoiding the common extremes of over-feminization or underdevelopment often seen in fantasy.

Overall, Swords of the Six is an entertaining and engaging novel, with a strong tone, enjoyable plot, and immersive journey that allows each character to shine on their own while contributing to a cohesive, satisfying story.
