Publisher's Summary

Introducing Geralt the Witcher - revered and hated - who holds the line against the monsters plaguing humanity in the best-selling series that inspired the Witcher video games and a major Netflix show.

Geralt is a witcher, a man whose magic powers, enhanced by long training and a mysterious elixir, have made him a brilliant fighter and a merciless assassin. Yet he is no ordinary murderer: his targets are the multifarious monsters and vile fiends that ravage the land and attack the innocent. He roams the country seeking assignments, but gradually comes to realise that while some of his quarry are unremittingly vile, vicious grotesques, others are the victims of sin, evil or simple naivety.

In this collection of short stories, following the adventures of the hit collection The Last Wish, join Geralt as he battles monsters, demons and prejudices alike....

Superb!

This should be the second book in the novel series, but it does't show up as such in Audibles list.
It captures events after The Last Wish and before Blood of Elves.

Otherwise it's a fantastic story and an amazing performance by Peter Kenny.

Next level entertainment

The book is good, interresting and twisty story, well written. But the reading is great as well. Lots of effort in voice acting, i mean accents tones. It is awesome. Loved it, can only recommend it. (if you arent familiar with the Witcher series, these are small novels of a warrior fighting monsters and struggling in his life)

Fantastic

A fantastic book. All the short stories are well written and interesting. Like the first book of short stories however, you probably should know a bit about "The Witcher" beforehand, as there are little in the way of explanation of lore and background.

New to the series

It was wonderful to see Ciri character being introduced to Geralt. Way better then the tv series with its time jumping.

Wonderful narration and audiobook

I have listened to my fair share of fantasy novels. I selected this one in large part because I was curious about the Netflix series. I came in with no expectations or knowledge of the series.
The narrator did a variety of voices for the characters. I particularly enjoy this when narrators can pull this off and it was done wonderfully.
I was wondering how it would all turn together with The Last Wish and I was also pleasantly surprised since sometimes a collection of short stories of a bigger story confuse rather than adding in understanding. But I feel more prepared for the actual first book in the series after listening to this!

Read this book second

great book, several related short stories.
even though this is the first book, read it second and the second one first. they are chronologically reversed despite the stories being originally published individually in sequence.
I read the second first and I'm glad I did. it sets up the events that lead into the series.

So much more...

I went into this series of stories expecting to be entertained, for surely enough the first collection of short stories is really great and entertaining, but this one goes beyond. The stories manage to both captivate and move the listener - with narrator Peter Kenny not missing a beat. He lends both voice and soul to the rich gallery of people in Sapkowski’s universe and I don’t believe anyone could have done a better job of it. I’m already excited to start the next book!

Amazing book, even better narrator

The Witcher series is one of my favorites of all time. This time, however, I discovered the amazing, narration of Peter Kenny, which brought to life this universe to another level. I recommend this a hundred percent.

The sword of destiny has two blades...

Where does Sword of Destiny rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Sword of Destiny is one of the best audiobooks I've listened to. Even though it is a collection of short stories, they all fit together so well that it's actually easy to forget this...just brilliant.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sword of Destiny?

Listening to Geralt talking to the mermaid using their singing dialect...what could have easily sounded like Sean Bean having a go at drunken karaoke on a night out is actually believable and really well done!

Have you listened to any of Peter Kenny’s other performances? How does this one compare?

So far I've only hear Peter Kenny reading Andrzej Sapkowski's The Last Wish, and Blood of Elves, but I'll definitely be listening to his other work in future. When it comes to the Witcher characters though, Peter Kenny is fantastic! Every character is completely unique and recogniseable, and listening to this audiobook has given me a completely new experience of Sword of Destiny.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I didn't have to move about, speak to people, and live life a little bit, I would have happily listened to Sword of Destiny from start to finish in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

The second book in the Witcher series, Sword of Destiny takes us even further into the life of Geralt of Rivia, Witcher of the Wolf School of Kaer Morhen, and the many unusual and interesting characters he meets on The Path. And monsters. There are quite a few monsters too. There are also laughs aplenty and unexpected moments where you'll feel like you've been kicked in the gut. Start by listening to The Last Wish, but before you move on to Blood of Elves, the start of the main series of Witcher novels, don't miss out on Sword of Destiny. A must listen for fans of The Witcher, and those who are new to the series!

Stands above the usual genre offerings

Within a genre that has so many protagonists of such a wide diversity of talents it is often very difficult to find a 'good' book. I have often thought to give up the genre completely after so many disappointments and then one finds a book of quality that reminds you why you do listen. Well constructed sympathetic characters within a well told original yarn. Add to this a fine narrator and you have a worthwhile listen
Yup, enjoyed this one

Great narration

Peter Kenny does a fantastic job bringing the characters to life raising this audio book to another level.

If you are after some early back story for the Witcher 3 game, then this is it. The story and characters are engaging and the segmented story works really well. Very enjoyable.

More adventures of Geralt of Rivia!

Another fantastic collection of stories, more adventures of Geralt of Rivia and friends along with some new characters for us to get to know. Once again beautifully narrated by Peter Kenny who gives each character, old and new, an individuality and personality that stands out.
Also, joy of all joys - Peter Kenny has either read the reviews or spoken to the author but for whatever reason he now correctly pronounces Dandelion’s name (dan-dee-lion) so I can listen without twitching every time his name is mentioned 😂😂

Peter Kenny is fantastic

I’ve always had trouble focusing on reading, so I decided to give audiobooks a try. I listened to the previous book in this series first, and the narration by Peter Kenny is the thing that sealed the deal for me, and this book is no different. The book itself is undoubtedly fantastic, and it is very enjoyable as a stand alone book. I will most certainly be continuing on with my journey through the Witcher series on Audible. Strongly recommend.

Dandilion?

So in the first book the bard Dandelion is pronounced correctly and now he’s Dandelion as in the flower? Really irritates me when the narrator can’t remember the characters’ names!

Sword of Destiny

A few short stories that *sort of* run together. Telling a little of the Origin Story of Geralt the Witcher and Ciri's relationship.

The Bard, most appropriately (and less annoyingly, as in other books - in which he's called the made-up name, Dandillion), is known as Dandelion🌼. It suits his personality, and makes even more sense, when one is aware that his name in the original Polish, is actually "Buttercup".

A great basis for the telling of the longer-form tales of the journeys of Geralt, Ciri, Yenniver, Triss Marigold, and Dandelion the Bard; and their other friends we meet along the way.

Another great stories of the witcher

After finishing The Last Wish I started this one.
It is as good as The Last Wish. If you want to go on chronological order. You should start with The Last Wish and then this one.
Last part of this book is wonderful. Very nicely written and narrated.
