Publisher's Summary

An IED blew up more than Marc North's career as a Cobra pilot - it shattered his plans for marriage. After being dumped by his girlfriend and spending more than a year in rehab, all he wants is to fly again. He jumps at the chance to partner with a combat buddy in a helicopter sightseeing business. Now, in a boomtown in southern Utah, Marc gets caught up with local politics. And the local election official.

At work, McKenzie Terkildsen struggles to keep control of a dangerously contentious election. At home, she shares the challenge of raising younger half-brothers with her older step-brother. He complicates things by inviting a Marine buddy to stay with them while the two build a business together. As a council member takes liberty with facts and stirs the already caustic election brew, the last thing McKenzie needs is one more guy messing up her life - or her heart.

A sweet, entertaining and inspirational story

Would you consider the audio edition of Swing Vote to be better than the print version?

The audiobook reflects the sweet and inspirational atmosphere of the written book. Similarly, it is narrated with a slow pace, that takes on energy and passion towards the end in a beautiful crescendo. The narrator is able to give peculiar traits to each character, making the listener love or dislike them depending on their role in the story

What did you like best about this story?

It is a fresh, original story. The plot is pervaded by a myriad of emotions: grief, friendship, pain, love all converge into a collective celebration of the healing and forgiving power of the human soul.

Which scene was your favorite?

I'd prefer not to give spoilers

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

In my opinion, this is not a book that inspires extreme reactions. Its beauty is in the sweet atmosphere that pervades the entire narration, that makes the story very enjoyable to read and leaves the reader happy and relaxed after the book is finished.

Any additional comments?

I loved how the author took the time to delineate the peculiarities of each character, exploring their emotions and feelings.

Gripping

This is the first of the series I've read (or listened to). I didn't feel like I missed out on anything by not reading the others. The book was flawlessly written. The story was interesting, intriguing and entertaining. I couldn't wait to get back to it every time I had to stop listening.

The narrator had such a great range of voices for the characters. He was so easy to listen to.

This was a clean, sweet romance with a great story to back it up. I loved it all. Highly recommended!

Great Choice! Wonderful Story!

Donna Weaver's books are well researched, well written, and well executed. I like that there is more than just a sweet romance to each of her books, though there definitely are romantic sparks as well! I liked how the mechanics of city government were meshed into the story; I learned while being thoroughly entertained. Fun characters, great story line, wonderful story. Instead of reading this book, I enjoyed it through the audio version, and this was a treat. I don't know that I've listened to too many sweet romances narrated by a man, but I feel this was the perfect choice. Scott Smith performed it perfectly. His voice inflections were wonderful--I always knew who was speaking because he did such a great job with the different characters. I would listen to Scott Smith narrate again, and I look forward to more books by Donna Weaver.

Politics and romance and unusual mix.

When new industry comes to this small town there are lots of growing pains and the town seems divided along the lines of old town folks and new town folks. Mackenzie was raised In this town and as the town recorder she's right in the middle of the battle between the old and the new. Mark served In the military with her brother Ike and he's come to start a partnership with Ike. Mackenzie and Mark have enough similarities in their past to become good friends. Will they both realize that they need more?I

Politics and romance both done well!

I think the narration was good overall. Ike was a military helicopter pilot and I expected a more mature voice for him, but their were lots of characters, male, female, young, old and that's not easy. So overall I would say he did a good job and I enjoyed bothered story and his telling of it.

Warm, feel-good story

Swing Vote contains humor, some action, small-town politics, realistic characters, and family drama (which comes in all shapes and sizes). It features McKenzie who has had to take over raising her two younger siblings after her parents’ death; Ike, her older sibling who is trying to start a business to help support them; and Marc, his partner and friend, who is discharged and recovering from the physical and mental effects of an IED explosion. It is a warm, feel-good romance with something for everyone told by Scott R. Smith. He brought to life both the female and male voices. If you like warm, clean, feel-good stories, this is the book for you.

Wonderful, Feel Good Story!

This was a wonderful, feel good story. The characters in this story were so real, they made me want to hang out with them. The story line had some good twists and was believable. Donna Weaver held my interest throughout, from the interactions between Marc and Ike, and Ike’s young brothers, to the budding relationship between Marc and McKenzie. Scott R. Smith did a great job with the narration. His voices for both male and female characters were all distinguishable and he brought the story to life. I would definitely listen to another audiobook he narrated. I highly recommend this sweet romance!

A Sweet Second Chance Story

This is a second chance story, no they have never met before but Marc and Mackenzie have both been let down in love and this is their second chance together!

The story is very well written and flows along at a lovely pace, the characters are very well defined, not just Kenz and Marc but Kenz's brothers too. The love which develops between Marc and Kenz is a slow burn and all the better for it. Kenz is trying to hold down a very demanding job and build a home for her two much younger half brothers after the sudden deaths of both their parents. To help her with this task she has Ike, her step brother who is a retired marine. When she decided to take on the care of her brothers her long time boyfriend dropped her like a hot potato and she is now unsure if any man can be trusted to take on her and her brothers.

Marc is Ike's best friend and is also an ex marine having been a Cobra pilot until his life is turned upside down by an awful accident when his leg was shattered by an IED. As if that wasn't bad enough whilst he was at his lowest he received a "Dear John" letter from the girl he planned to marry. After two years of therapy he is ready to try to form a life outside the Military. He is invited by Ike to come and form a helicopter sightseeing business in southern Utah where he now lives with Kenz and his half brothers.

Mark still has some slight problems with his leg and must take care but his biggest problem is PTSD but he really wants a chance to make this venture work so off he goes to live with Ike and his three brothers, little does he know that one brother is a very attractive, strong willed dynamo of a SISTER. From Marc and Mackenzie's first explosive meeting their attraction grows but will either of them be brave enough to believe that life is giving them a second chance at love?

In addition to this growing love story there is action, intrigue, loss and most of all the building and joining of lives. This is part of a series, which sadly for me, I have not read or listened to and some of the characters from the previous books are featured in this story, blending in really well and I was definitely able to enjoy this book as a standalone. That said I now really want to listen to the rest of this wonderful series. I am so glad I found this author, better late than never I say.

I would like to also mention how well this book was read and performed, because it was a performance - par excellence - by Scott R. Smith he brought every single part of this book to life for me, he invoked such emotion in every single character making this wonderful story a total joy to listen to.

I was given this book as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.

Swing Vote

This is a nice sweet story about finding love and fighting for it. After a life-threatening injury sends Marc back to a civilian life he finds himself putting his life back together. When a good friend offers him a partnership in a new company Marc grabs it. Little does he know that he would find more than friendship when he arrives at his destination.

The author does a good job of world and character building in this story and narrator Scott R. Smith brings it all to life nicely. I was quickly pulled into the story right from the start. Each of the characters have gone through a rough life and seeing them find their way to one another was a delightful story. Marc and McKenzie fight hard to find and keep love. With the help of friends and family the two will take on life and what ever it throws at them.
