Publisher's summary

Reports to write, forms to fill, coffee to drink, leads to run down.

Gus’s life was a tedium and boredom he’d grown comfortable with. One that he sought out after he’d come back from his tour of duty.

A detective in the paranormal investigations department. A job he could work day in and day out in relative peace. One cold and forgotten cup of coffee at a time.

It was an environment that made some sense to him. At least in comparison to civilian life where almost nothing did. On top of that, it gave him a chance to hide what he was from the rest of the world.

An apex predator that made the entirety of the paranormal world fear him. His very species was often killed as soon as they were found out.

By government and citizen alike.

He’s a Boogieman.

A name that made humans laugh, and vampires curse. It was a strange life to be sure.

Now though, Gus’s stable non-life is about to be kicked over. Whether he likes it or not, he’s about to be handed a case that’s going to mess up his already screwed up life.

A new Series by William Arand

When I saw that William Arand came out with another new book series I knew that I could buy it without worry of it being disapointing. Again I am not wrong this is a fantastic start to a new series. Firmly in the urban fantasy Detective series. This is not a sex novel so don't buy or reject that in mind. Reminds me of Kim Harrison Hollows meets Patricia Briggs Mercy Thomson series. With a male protagonist.

Very good

Did not need the harem stuff. Not bad though.

The variety of the world was great for a detective novel. Wish there was more like this.

Not quite what others say

I read some where that this book was full of sex it was not they don’t have sex once in this story some suggestive material not really though I think that will change in later books The story was good the MC is not over powered The female characters are decently fleshed out.

The thing that keeps this from being a five star is the author could do more description of events, some times feel like the author fail to properly describe events that would be good for the story mostly at the end of book, and more personally I feel MC broods and is a little to pessimistic.

Great concept, good execution

Love the unique take of the boogeyman protagonist and the interesting world. The characters are unique but the ending seemed rushed.

Slow start, strong finish

Wasn't sure if I would like it in the beginning, but once I got into it I was hooked! drew me in like a moth to a flame. A little mystery, a little romance, mixed with fantasy and thrills! Highly recommend this book!

Not sure what my final opinion is.

The writing was excellent as always, and the narration as perfect and flawless as ever. However it feels like another branch off to his existing universes. I was hoping for a stand alone tale taking its own path into a new epic. I guess I'll have to wait and see. Worth a read or listen for sure though.

judge this book by its cover

hmmmm... Swing Shift and there is a sexy thang on the cover? Is this a police procedure mystery or a book for swingers? Both.
These supernatural cops have a very complicated home life. My kids are polygamous so at least I can attest that this is a pretty healthy family... except for the whole "cutting" thing.
But I liked how REAL these fairy creature cops feel. Good writing, great narration.
