Publisher's Summary

Elinor Abbott was only 14 years old when she and her father left England for America. Six years later, with war at their doorstep, she is forced to return to her land of birth and a life amongst the aristocracy she abhors. A return to England also means facing the man who brutally attacked her as an adolescent.

Viscount Easton came to the United States at the behest of His Majesty's Army for his last assignment. He was sent home early due to an injury and must face his new destiny as the heir to an earldom. An unexpected encounter with the unrefined beauty links Easton and Elinor together in society, and he must decide whether to save Elinor's reputation or hold on to bachelorhood.

Can Elinor navigate the perils of coming out in aristocratic England and still retain her sense of identity? Can Easton help her overcome her aversion to men, or will her past keep her from facing her future?

not very good

I am disturbed by the fact that this woman was raped by her cousin when she was 14. The family seemed to accept it when years later they were told. I realize he apologized but to only receive a slap across the face was not enough punishment. She also had to interact with him and even dance with him. Her uncle wanted her to marry her cousin since she was a ruined woman. Back in those years he would have been beaten and separated from the family. Very weak story.

It's okay

I admit I struggled with the storyline and couldn't finish this one. However, I liked the sequel a lot.

EliZabeth Johns’ story comes to life!

Wonderful story. Really good narration. I love EJ’s stories- but when you have read the book-listen to the book and be prepared to be transported! I got so much out of the narration- and I had loved the book! Just gets better. Highly recommend.

A sweet historical romance

I enjoyed Adam and Eleanor's story. Eleanor's life abruptly changed as she is sent from her home in America to England, the place she had left many years ago. Hating society rules and a deeper secret has her trapped in an engagement under false pretenses. But when the truth comes to light, true love prevails and she surrenders the past to get her HEA❤️
The narrator has a beautiful voice, I enjoyed listening to her storytelling.
