Publisher's summary

The exciting sequel to A New Breed!

After battling the elements to cross the Great Plains to Colorado - then fighting horse rustlers and a vengeful killer - the Jakes family hopes to finally settle down on their new ranch and breed horses...

...until a wedding celebration provides the cover for Frank Jakes' young daughter Franny to be kidnapped by a young man known only as Jack.

Unless Frank and his family can do something fast, the terrified girl will be sold to the Comanches as a slave. But no law or troops are nearby to track down the kidnappers and get her back.

Desperate, Frank and his family must turn once again to the only man who can help: Frank's new brother-in-law, rugged mountain man Roy Scuggins. But he can't do this job alone. And Roy's friend and warrior ally, Black Eagle, lies wounded.

Unskilled in tracking and fighting, Frank himself must accompany Roy on the dangerous and deadly rescue mission to save his beloved Franny...if they're not already too late.

It's all about family!

In this sequel to A New Breed we delve more deeply into the personal lives of the characters introduced in the previous volume. Weddings galore and much celebration to be had. The horse ranch of the Jakes family gets off to a good start and the breeding plans look promising. Much focus is placed on the New Mexico families and their old Spanish land grants. Just as the land was taken from the Indians, the same treachery was in store for the Spaniards. Old enemies resurface and new ones are made. The theme of family love and duty runs deep in this series and from what I understand runs deep in the author as well. There were a bit more political wrangling and less romanticism in this volume but it still an exciting enjoyable tale. Great Listen

Summer 1866
A New Breed, Book 2
By: Edd Voss

This is a good follow up to The New Breed. It's a classic historical western fiction. The author does admit to taking literary license to certain places and events. The listener gets to travel back with the characters as they lead their lives. We experience weddings, kidnapping, land grabs, and chases. Plenty of action and adventure. I hope there will be more of these stories in the future!!!

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Michael Welte gives a great performance.

Superb listening experience.

Summer of 1866. ..
Let me start by saying that the narration is one of the best Western narrations I've ever heard.
The storyline is the usual, good guys versus the bad guys.
Well written and very entertaining.
An absolute must read/listen for lovers of the classic western genre. .
