Inspirational and Informational and Actionable

Any additional comments?

It catalogs how geography played the biggest part in the development of human society. Good book.A look at how and why civilizations rose and fell. This gave me a good deal of insight on why the world ended up the way it did, answering questions that I had about the New World, Africa, and Southeast Asia. I highly recommend this book for people curious about these questions!

Interesting coverage and theory of human evolution and how geography drives much of evolution. The analysis of history shifted from personal deeds to deterministic forces a long time ago. This book offers nothing groundbreaking in that regard

Enough of the book's details

Any additional comments?

This book is extraordinary. I did not actually start reading it at the beginning. I skipped first to the section on the rise of food production, then returned read the earlier and later sections of the book. While the book can be read cover-to-cover, it can also be read as a series of stand-alone articles, according to the reader's interest.

I'd highly recommend it to those interested in how the world today has come into existence - why the world power structure is what it is today, and how we might be able to foresee future events playing out.A brilliant, extraordinarily comprehensive review of how power has ended up in largely Western hands. Wow!

Do you have any additional comments?

Though the book doesn't quite make the claim that the way civilization developed in the world was inevitable, it certainly helps you understand the advantages and disadvantages of all our important historical societies and why one was so much more likely to be a conquering society instead of a conquered one.

Amazing book that explains the rise of western civilization as we see it today. The overall concept is still consistently and convincingly put forward. One of the books that have most influenced me.
