Acerca de esta escucha
The Circle follows the career of Mae Holland, a young and angst-ridden millennial, as she advances in the corporate hierarchy of the Circle, a company based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her friend and college roommate, Annie, has already secured an influential position at the Circle, which is described as having combined all the best features of Google, Facebook, and Amazon in one place. Mae is happy to have the job, since it allowed her to move away from Fresno, her boring hometown, although she remains concerned about the health of her father and well-being of her mother.
Mae is assigned to a position in customer service - "customer experience representative" - and trained by Dan, a true believer in the social media community created by the Circle. While Mae shows immediate promise as a customer experience representative and is glad to have left her dead-end utility company job behind, she does not initially embrace the intensely interactive atmosphere at the Circle.

Historia
At the heart of being human is the desire to belong. It can make us unspeakably vulnerable to the manipulations of others. Cult leaders prey on this desire, but so do many unscrupulous operators hiding in plain sight. Sarah Steel, the creator of the popular 'Let's Talk About Sects' podcast, has researched the cults you've heard of—and dozens you haven't. What strikes her most are not the differences between bizarre cult behaviour and 'normal' behaviour but the depressing similarities. Her work reveals that we are all susceptible to the power of cult dynamics.

If you cut off a spider's leg, it's crippled; if you cut off its head, it dies. But if you cut off a starfish's leg it grows a new one, and the old leg can grow into an entirely new starfish. The Starfish and the Spider argues that organizations fall into two categories: "spiders", which have a rigid hierarchy, and "starfish", which rely on the power of peer relationships.

Historia
To lead is to live dangerously. It's romantic and exciting to think of leadership as all inspiration, decisive action, and rich rewards, but leading requires taking risks that can jeopardize your career and your personal life. It requires putting yourself on the line, disrupting the status quo, and surfacing hidden conflict. And when people resist and push back, there's a strong temptation to play it safe. Those who choose to lead plunge in, take the risks, and sometimes get burned.

Historia
Something is wrong. We all know it. American life expectancy is declining for a third straight year. Birth rates are dropping. Nearly half of us think the other political party isn’t just wrong; they’re evil. We’re the richest country in history, but we’ve never been more pessimistic. What’s causing the despair? In Them, bestselling author and U.S. senator Ben Sasse argues that, contrary to conventional wisdom, our crisis isn’t really about politics. It’s that we’re so lonely we can’t see straight—and it bubbles out as anger. Local communities are collapsing.

Historia
In Happy Derren Brown explores changing concepts of happiness - from the surprisingly modern wisdom of the Stoics and Epicureans in classical times right up until today, when the self-help industry has attempted to claim happiness as its own. He shows how many of self-help’s suggested routes to happiness and success – such as positive thinking, self-belief and setting goals – can be disastrous to follow and, indeed, actually cause anxiety. Happy aims to reclaim happiness and to enable us to appreciate the good things in life, in all their transient glory.

How we seek out, filter, and parse knowledge shapes our understanding of ourselves and of the world. How we analyze, organize, and act upon this information influences how well our individual ideas and ideologies scale up to the societal level.

Vystopia is the normal response any feeling human being should have after discovering the nature and extent of society’s systematized animal abuse. It’s fueled by the trancelike collusion of non-vegans with a dystopian world they’ve not yet realized they’re part of. Best-selling author Clare Mann, a vegan psychologist, communications trainer, and existential psychotherapist, not only validates the vegan’s experience but rejects medical labels that claim such anguish is abnormal.
