College professor Stephen Barlow needs cash. Badly. He puts his skepticism aside and signs on to a paranormal research organization in the hopes of scoring a fat bonus. Enter Chaythe Asylum: a long-shuttered and controversial institution where patients were allegedly subjected to unethical experiments. Stephen deems the old building, closed in 1989 after a series of grisly murders, as good a place as any to explore the possibility of the supernatural, and arranges to take a tour with his students. But it turns out that the asylum is not as abandoned as it seems. There is something sinister in the building.

He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Publisher's summary
From USA Today and number-one Amazon best-selling author Jeremy Bates comes a tale of mystery and horror set in Japan's ancient Suicide Forest, a place that is easy to enter but, for some, impossible to leave.
Just outside of Tokyo lies Aokigahara, a vast forest and one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in Japan...and also the most infamous spot to commit suicide in the world. Legend has it that the spirits of those many suicides are still roaming, haunting deep in the ancient woods.
When bad weather prevents a group of friends from climbing neighboring Mt. Fuji, they decide to spend the night camping in Aokigahara. But they get more than they bargained for when one of them is found hanged in the morning - and they realize there might be some truth to the legends after all.
Contains mature themes.

Relationship angst with a heavy dose of mediocre
I don't understand all the 4 and 5 star reviews on Amazon / here on Audible for this story. The main character's relationship troubles became like a soap opera about halfway in. There were some unexplained deaths (suicides) in Suicide Forest. The final "twist" was pretty ho hum. Would like my 10 hours back.

worth a free credit, but not a purchase
The narrator is great. That was the only great thing about the book.
Some characters didn't serve purpose to the story. Too much fluff. Entertaining story to have in the background but if you need to step out of the room for anything, there isn't the need to rewind to hear what you missed.

Great listen
I enjoyed the steady start as it gave a good base to understanding each character. Giving a nice amount of background to each person, and accents where needed without being over the top or unrealistic.
Things build slowly but when they kick off they really kick off!
I listen to audio books as a bedtime wind down before sleep but regularly kept me up late as i needed to know just a bit more before i could pause, ‘just one more page,’ and for the last 3rd of the book i had to switch to daytime listening as the scene and atmosphere were set so well it was actually frightening at times! Which made the book everything i hoped it would be.
The narrator was easy to listen to and took you through the journey as if you were there.
Highly recommend this book and i will be getting others from this author.

Could have been better
I didn't really like the characters, and their behaviour often seemed to make no sense. the story overall isn't bad but I think would have way enhanced if the character would have been more relatable.
I think other stories by the author are way better, and this was one of his weaker works

Suicide Forest
I absolutely loved this book. I read this book in one sitting and I simply couldn't put it down. It captures you and it's very suspenseful. You didn't know if it was one of the friends or something else. It's a great read. I want to read the rest of the series.

Should be a film...
Brilliant. What a fabulous book. I was gutted when the book finished it was definitely a book you shouldn’t start unless you have time as it keeps you listening.
Loved the characters you just felt like you were part of the group. Lots of twists and turns some predictable elements and other parts that are red herrings.
Loved this book thank you x

Not scary, but okay story
CONTAINS SPOILERS
Not a bad storyline, although I couldn't wait for the main characters girlfriend to die, was begging for it, because she was annoying and I dislike her immensely.
memorable moment - when one of the main characters cuts off the bad guys penis and shoves it in his mouth.... :)

The living dead are more alive than ever! Zombies have become more than an iconic monster for the 21st century: They are now a phenomenon constantly revealing as much about ourselves - and our fascination with death, resurrection, and survival - as our love for the supernatural or post-apocalyptic speculation. Our most imaginative literary minds have been devoured by these incredible creatures and produced exciting, insightful, and unflinching new works of zombie fiction.
