Story
Connor is living in Israel, enjoying the good life, when his world changes in a matter of seconds for good. Will he see Natasha again? What is the world searching for before it's too late? What is the motherland? I'm more excited about this book than any I have written so far. It's a powerful story. Motherland is a hair-raising thrill ride of suspense. The ending is shocking of course; as usual, you won't see it coming.

Story
Towards the end of the Korean War, 28 American soldiers were inserted into the conflict on a hill, with a company of ROK troops, that is now inside the Demilitarized Zone on the Korean Peninsula. They were on a secret mission to test 'battlefield radar' for the first time, which eventually gave GIs the ability to spot the enemy and direct fire on the battlefield, providing a significant advantage during the war. Shortly after arriving, thousands of Chinese soldiers overran their position.

Powell and Silverglate shine a light on the defects of the federal criminal-justice system: overzealous prosecutors, perjury traps, negligent judges, perverse limits on self-defense, vague and overabundant criminal statutes, insufficient requirements for criminal intent, and no accountability for prosecutors. Most important, they provide a much-needed blueprint for reforming the Department of Justice and the criminal-justice system, including actions an average citizen can take to help restore justice.

Story
The waters off the West African coast are a menacing red, full of algae thick enough to stand on in places. In nearby villages, mysterious deaths start to occur - and the panic mounts. But before an alarm can be sounded, the sea currents shift, the algae vanishes, and the deaths stop. Everyone is relieved when things return to normal, and local government officials are happy to sweep the publicity nightmare under a rug. But then parts of the Caribbean start turning a familiar red right before hurricane season kicks into high gear, and the implications are clear....

Relevant & Gripping
Sugar is fiction that expresses truths that are relevant to the current world political climate. L. Todd Wood is an exceptional and transfixing storyteller. He is honest about human behavior and its limitations and failings. Don Moffit, the narrator, does a fantastic job of voicing the characters and moving the story along with a gentle yet persistent cadence. Sugar is a fascinating book that is well worth the time, as it is congruent historically and also provides insight to today's world events.

A terrific must read with the deceiving title
If you read this authors book Currensy," sugar " is a must. This next book is a continuation of the social effects of a commodity that was a major product of the ages. The author has a style of mixing the evolution of commerce and a commodity like sugar to today's most valuable natural resources petroleum. It weaves in a story of today's international intrigue and power. It covers the conflicts of today skillfully and filled with factual information. It even skillfully covers up-to-date management of a cancerous lymphoma and treatment affects the individual. All this tied to the secrecy and intrigue of nations fighting for power and petroleum. Another book by L Todd Wood that you can't put aside by a skilled author. Highly recommended
