Publisher's Summary

What do you do when you find yourself suddenly single? Go suddenly suicidal? Suddenly sexcrazed? Or simply slump into self-pity? Alix Callaghan, who thought she was in control of her busy life, feels like doing all three when her long-term boyfriend insists on settling down to a sensible existence – complete with children, proper meals and early nights – but without her. Little by little, though, Alix begins to think there might be more to the single life than the first shock of rejection suggests...

Her books always a good read.

Would you consider the audio edition of Suddenly Single to be better than the print version?

I always listen to books, seldom read them. I love Sheila O'Flanagan books and will always listen to them.

What other book might you compare Suddenly Single to and why?

Can't think of one to compare it to, it's a story of it's one. I enjoyed it.

Have you listened to any of Caroline Lennon’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love Caroline Lennon narrations. She is good at voices and accents, brings her characters to life.

If you could take any character from Suddenly Single out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Alex of course, very interesting person.

I did enjoy it in the end

If you’ve listened to books by Sheila O'Flanagan before, how does this one compare?

I have listened to several books by this author and found to be 5* listens/reads. The meat of this one was also very good, but I agree with another reviewer that there was too much detail of the stock market and trading room. I had to skip a few chapters alltogether after the first couple, because (from the several bits of each one of those chapters that I checked) they seemed to consist almost entirely of shouting in the dealing room. This level of detail was unnecessary for the story. That said, when I got past about chapter 17, the dealing room stuff was at an appropriate level for context.

What does Caroline Lennon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She is my favourite narrator and was faultless as usual.

Any additional comments?

If not for the high quality of the writing and my previous enjoyment of this authors work, I may have given-up and obtained a refund after the first half a dozen chapters. I am glad that I persevered though.

Enjoyable

Nice story, with a steady pace and a narrative that will keep you listening and wanting more. Recommended, particularly for aspiring career minded women.

Not as expected

What did you like best about Suddenly Single? What did you like least?

I like books which have depth of story but this book delved way too much into the detaill of financial markets and currency dealing for my liking.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was predictable but okay.

Which character – as performed by Caroline Lennon – was your favourite?

I didn't have a favourite character.

Was Suddenly Single worth the listening time?

Not as good as other books by the same author.

Any additional comments?

From the publisher's description I expected something more light hearted but a large part of this book was about the misery of breakup and rejection.

Gave up

Normally love this author but the story line about banking is just too detailed & boring so I had to return it after an hour and a bit.

Really high-quality chick-lit

I absolutely loved this book. Despite not understanding all the terminology surrounding high-finance trading, I found it very interesting and exciting. The characters are finely drawn and completely believable, so much so that listening to the book was like sharing their lives.
The writer's perception of office politics and power struggles is quite amazing, and I was particularly impressed by her grasp of the problems and prejudices women have faced when trying to succeed in power-driven male environments.
There is so much human interest in this story, and Caroline Lennon, as usual, narrates it perfectly.
Loved it, loved it.

So disappointing!

I like a bit of Sheila as light relief between serious books but this was such a let-down. The story itself was not to my taste at all, and I really didn't like the narration. I stuck with it for quite a few hours then gave up and returned it.

Not one of the authors best

Not a very likable character. I found it hard to empathize with her. and found her very shallow.
